Quoting Click Me Click Me!!!:" I have a car payment that my family took over and is paying the full payment for me to pay it off they ... [snip!] ... i went out to eat... They are helping me get on my feet i am in school full time looking for a job and taking care of my kids."
I am more talking about the people who count their assistance as "income" and refuse to better their situations because then they would no longer qualify for assistance and it "wouldn't be worth it". It seems like the point of assistance is to eventually get off of it and be proud of being able to fully support yourself.
Like I said, assistance definitely has a need and is a good program in theory...but I think that there should be more limitations, especially on the amount of time you are allowed to benefit from it--"being a hand up and not a hand out", kwim?

Right? Sorry I'm going to school full time , and we can't make ends meet on my husband's income alone right now. I'm doing it so I'll have a career, and not rely on assistance in the future. I buy my kids a package of cookies for them to enjoy a couple after dinner, and a 36 pack of Dr. Pepper for my husband to have with his lunch at work. Shoot me for having the audacity to spend $20 of my foodstamps on junk.

Here you can only get cash assistance for 2 years, and must complete 35 hours of an approved activity to keep receiving your benefits.

Most states have implemented time limits and activity requirements, so it annoys me when people who have no idea comment on it. Sure there are people playing the system, but most of us really need it temporarily.

But who really suffers here? The kid/s. So they get the help stopped and are unable to feed their kids?

I know people who are out nearly every day, if not ever day looking for work and not being able to get work. It's not just clear cut, they're so many difference circumstances that come into play!

On the flip side I know people abuse the system. Over here you can evidence that you're looking for work. I don't know how it works over there but I think it's about those who abuse it, should be made to evidence it!

It's just so complex. Things can always be improved!

I agree with you. Like a set amount of meat, grains, vegetables, etc. It has gotten old seeing people at the register with Funyns, packages of candy, cookie, soda, and ice cream that runs up to $50 and then they pull out the Food Stamp card but they're paying cash for the alcohol.

Would it bother you if they were paying for alcohol with cash, if they had purchased healthy food with the FS?

For the amount of money on alcohol that was spent it would bother me. It must be nice to have the money to stock a bar. I just think SOME people should be ashamed for taking the hand outs if they're going to abuse it.
