For a few months when he was laid off, we got 793. But we had no other assistance, income, etc.
We stocked up...lol

7 people, that's understandable. We have our redetermination set for April, but now that he's working I doubt we will get much, if anything. Which I don't mind, I'm grateful it was there when he lost his job.

The $419 was when he wasn't working, and we were getting $647 cash. I cancelled out our cash now that he's working, and we have the calfresh redetermination next month.

If you can tell me everything you know, that'd be great

lol, I literally don't know anything except what I've learned in this thread before the drama ensued. I just applied and got accepted for SSI (sorta against my wishes but that's another topic) and now my mother's telling me that I can be eligible for food stamps. She thinks we'd really benefit from it, I'm skeptical because I don't want to make myself feel helpless (no offense to anyone here) for the extra hand. I do currently work though, I earn about 8$ an hour. Just in case that might be important.

Your stamps might stay around the same, maybe. We weren't able to get cash because my grandma LOANED us 300 bucks (over the month, not at once). I was like really? If I hadn't told them, they would have given it to us. How else were we supposed to get toilet paper, shampoo, gas, etc.? Ya know? We had to ask her because FSSA didn't get back to us for over 2 months.

The assistance program is a smurfing joke. They didn't understand how DH's military income worked (he gets one 'paycheck' a month for drill), but they thought he got it every week like he does his civilian job. So, instead of giving us what we needed, we got like 100$ in food stamps while DH was bringing in about 1600$/month for a family of 4, almost 5. Same reason we lost our income based apartment, they couldn't calculate DH's income and they had him down as making over 40k a year when we only make 20k. We showed them a million times how to read the damn print out, but it was no use.

Now we're on no assistance and live with my parents until I can find a job. Almost there >_<

That's insane...$300 would not last in today's economic world.

That sucks. When we were first on assistance in 2010, we were on for about 8 months. DH got a job in November of that year, so I cancelled it asap. Then in February I got a paper stating we owed because he had been working there a year and we had not been reporting his income. I was PISSED! She tried saying he had been working there since 2009, when it was in 2010! And then she tried saying we had a BoA account which we also didn't report. Which we did, in 2007! We closed it in 2008, and weren't on aid until 2010, so I have NO idea how she even got the info or WHY it mattered if it had been closed way before we got assistance. She sent us back & forth between her office and the bank trying to prove we did not have a secret account, eventually the bank manager called her pissed off that she had us running around like chickens with our heads cut off and the account wasn't even on their system anymore. They finally dropped it all once they saw it was the worker's mistake.

This last time he lost his job in March 2012, and I refused to apply because of our experience the first time. We had to in the summer though because he was denied unemployment and we used up our savings. We got off it the end of January this year since he found a job. I appreciate the assistance, but hate it at the same time....

Yea they don't pay attention sometimes. They've done that to my aunt before.

I think the food stamp thing seems a bit stupid ... but that's just someone from a different country. Here we don't have either food stamps or WIC ... we just have various cash assistance programs.

- Families earning under $150,000 get day care assistance. There's also family assistance (income based).
- Tax benefits (income based). Rent assistance (income based). AUStudy .... which is a monetary income based scheme for students.
- Youth allowance ... similar to AUStudy but only for people under 21.
- Newstart ... unemployment payments with strict criteria including classes and volunteer work.
- Paid maternity leave ... 18 weeks at minimum wage.
- Baby bonus ... lump sum payout instead of the paid maternity leave.
- Paternity leave ... 2 weeks at minimum wage.
- HECS ... all citizens and residents are eligible for the government to pay university tuition as a 25 year loan that is paid back via taxes.

I'm sure I've missed some ... though SAHM's who are receiving family assistance or tax benefits, if they aren't working at least 20 hours a week after their youngest child turns 5 lose all their entitlements.

It's better but as you can see, people in the US have a lot of issues with "entitlement" programs. Anything that smacks of socialized is immediately bad.

WIC covers the AR but u have to have 2 reason's I get it BUT i still spend 70 on it.... Then i buy her gerber graduates on it but most stuff i buy in bulk so its sometimes a bit more because i get it in a bigger amount we freeze everything to make it last. But we still have stuff left over at the end of the month, and i have been buying more stuff for lunch since i am in school so it adds up fast but we still have at least 100 left over last month i had almost 200 left. But we ended up needing things here and there so we used it.

well its different in each state if she has income and you have income from ssi and another job u may not.... My MIL only get 16 dollars YES 15 dollars because she didnt have rent only electric bill ect. So you may end up not getting it. You may want to look up the income in ur state for a family of however many. I know here w/children even when ur living at home once ur 22 or 23 i can not remember they do not include the parents income. The income changes because the cost of living is different. PM me if u'd like.

I never have gotten cash aid and most likely never will but if i did it only last for 18 month in ur life here then ur just SOL.For child only cases they get it till there 18 if needed thats only for adopted children or children that someone else is caring for and not the parent.
