Yeah that's weird to me. My Mom gets food stamps, so when the family comes here for holidays we split what we are making but half of it usually comes from "our" foodstamps but we all eat it as a family.

I watch a little girl every week and she sometimes eats here. I wouldnt see that as welfare fraud.

Interesting. I never thought about THAT aspect of FS and I'm on these FS threads often  .
Like you said, it's hard to prove.
I wonder where you draw the line. Certainly, an occasional guest isn't a problem and having a group of guests over when the meal will be reciprocated later sounds ok.... But.... Hmmm.
Certainly, the tax payer should not be funding celebrations or feeding those who don't qualify or haven't applied for assistance.

I'm not sure how I feel about Christmas dinner being provided by tax money to people that aren't needy. I realize that not all of the meal may be from food stamps but providing for a party is a need.
I have sponsored many holiday meals for the needy and I personally bring lots of food to the poor from my own oven.
Honestly, if people are poor, I think special events should be important enough to save and plan for or have donated from the community or have other friends and family provided for OR a combination or all 3 sources of food.
I know plenty of poor families not on FS that figure out how to have something special without tax dollars at work.

We usually all pitch in. Some food stamps, some not.

I dont care what a person gets off of their stamps. My SO works and pays into taxes but being that we are unwed and do not currently reside together i still qualify. My mother has my son and barely is able to pay for her bills let alone food. I usually have food stamps left over at the end of the month so i give them to her for my child. I get 526 for myself and my two children that reside with me and i usually spend about 300 for the month in my household. Do i get snacks for my children? Yes. Do i buy red meats? Yes. Do i buy sodas? Yes. My hubby pays into taxes and i never once here him complain about it. Ive never caught anyone looking at me funny at the grocery store or checking out my cart bc most people dont care. I cook for my family but there are days where i dont feel like it especially with a 3 month old so ill maybe give my daughter a bag of chips and a sandwich or some raviolis.... I find nothing wrong with it.

Regarding the "my husband pays taxes" part of your post, what percent or how many dollars of his paycheck do you think goes toward paying for the FS program?

You qualify because you aren't married. You can't turn around and say "my hubby pays into it". You're either married, or you aren't. In this case you aren't - your foodstamps have nothing to do with him. And even if they did, the amount he pays in doesn't even begin to cover your foodstamps, or even just soda. People don't "need" snacks or treats. The foodstamp program is based on need - not want.

No we arent married but i guess you can say hubby is slang for boyfriend or in my case fiance and you made my point. The change that people put into the FS program is not even equivalent to a soda or bag of chips so why gripe and complain about a couple cents. What people buy IMO is not anyones business but their own. Otherwise there would be regulations as to what you can buy and eat.

He averages close to 70,000 a year at his current job and has made more as a Senior Network Engineer. 38 an hour. He pays change.

2 reasons why there aren't regs on what you can buy:
- the general public has no idea that you can buy so much. They also assume that people are being responsible and "good with money."
- the food lobbyists are in the way. There is no way coke/Pepsi/fritillary/etc would allow it.
