breastfeeding????

i was wondering if it is safe to breastfeed you newborn while on prozac. i would be on 20mgs. i really wanna breastfeed but not if it could hurt the baby.

Prozac. Infants exposed to Prozac appear to be at higher risk of developing elevated levels of drug in the blood, especially if mothers have taken the drug during pregnancy. These babies tend to be more nervous, irritable, and to have stomach upsets


Zoloft and Paxil. Based on all the studies' results, these are the "drugs of choice" for breastfeeding women. Infants exposed to Paxil and Zoloft had undetectable levels of the antidepressant in their blood, she reports.

i have seen all the same research. OP, can u change meds?

i probably could i havent taken it during my pregnancy but since i stopped taking it i havent worked. i take it for an anxiety disorder. i will ask my doctor if there is anything else he can give me. i havent worked since i was 5 months pregnant. thank goodness my husband has a good paying job and can support us. i just really wanna breastfeed.
