Tattooing Pets *poll*

posted 22nd Feb
Poll: How do you feel about people tattooing their animals?

Here are some pictures of someone tattooing their pet.

Here are two comments that were made about the pictures

"This is a woman tattooing her pet dog with it’s name/contact phone number in case gets lost. This is sick, cruel and down right stupid. If I lived in America I would ring her just to tell her how cruel and stupid she really is. Her argument would probably be something about the dogs welfare and her anxiety about losing it, but if that was true why the smurf did she add the big red love-heart? I can’t even…ugh."

"Does this bitch not know what a microchip is?? People who do this to their animals should be hung."

Do you agree or disagree with the sentiment of the two comments?

I think it is stupid as hell and wrong to tattoo an animal.

That kind of tattoo is WRONG!

The ear tattoo with the ID number, just like the microchip (I think they did it before the microchip) is acceptible.

That's a little much IMO... but there are people who tattoo the dogs' gums with numbers (My Gram did this with her dog instead of having to pay for licenses for life) and I think that's fine... but what that lady did was cosmetic, not for safety.

Uh, what ever happened to a good ol' dog tag?

Agree. That's inflicting senseless pain on an animal. Especially if the fur is going to grow over it.

I think it's sick.

We had Throughbreds off the track and they were always tatooed in their upper lip to help identify who they were. It never bothered me but I don't think I would do it to a cat or dog.

I don't agree with it. I don't see the point in wasting the money or putting the animal through any pain for something the animal probably doesn't want. I am sure animals don't care for tattoos, so what is the point in them having them?

I get tattooing a line on fixed female dogs to show they can't reproduce, I get a possible ID number in an ear for identification purposes, but this is just wrong. That is way more pain than the animal should be subjected to for no good reason.

Oh you know, they'll just get another tattoo to cover it with the new number.

That dog looks passed the hell out to me, so I can't imagine it's in pain. I don't see how it's that different than a microchip.
