Autism and Marijuana

posted 22nd Feb
So I'm just curious what other people think on this.

Say you have a child with severe Autism. You've spent years trying to find a combination of medications to help them with their issues with over stimulation and ability to deal with the world, but nothing has ever helped. You live in a state where the use of Marijuana is now legal and have wanted to try this for your child's care because you know it has a lot of beneficial uses for adults. You make things like hemp butters, and other things for them to ingest, NEVER SMOKE, clearly. And it helps. Drastically. Behavior and ability to handle day to day things improves 1000%

Would you be okay with doing it?

The child's ability to handle day to day things or your ability to handle the child?

Depends on where the marijuana comes from. But I don't see a problem with the idea itself.

Absolutely! My only issue with it is the illegality of it. If it was legal for medicinal use for my child? I would definitely use it if it helped. I'd rather them ingest natural substances than manufactured pills that have horrendous side effects.

I honestly couldn't say one way or another. I think that I might try it, if nothing else at all worked and it helps my child be able to function better on a daily basis.

The child's ability to function, with doing things like even handling going to school or the store. She can handle him fine regardless. It's to help him not her.

Since its illegal where I live I automatically think no only because I don't know what it's like to be legal and so it's considered a "drug". However, maybe if it was legal and I could get it medically and not just off someone random who could lace it, I might consider it. I mean, it's just a plant. We eat plants all the time and its probably safer then most over the counter drugs

So had my friend, and she finally tried it with her son. She's been doing it for him for I think she said 2 weeks. She said he's a totally new child, not upset all the time like he was, not violet, not angry. Just a happy kid. She said before she could see in his eyes how he felt trapped in his own body most days and angry he couldn't function like he wanted. Now he's only had one short note from school about 1 time acting up and no issues at home with the violence. I'm genuinely so excited and happy for her.

I would have to see some scientific evidence that proves it has benefits for those with autism before I allowed my child to have marijuana.

Sorry I thought you were talking about you. lol

Honestly, I don't think I'd ever be comfortable with it.
Mind you I don't have a child with autism so I wouldn't know what I would do in her shoes. I'd probably want my child to be able to function to the best of his/her ability.

Nah, not me   It's one of my friends. She's wanted to for a long time, but is terrified of what people would think. I think outside of their home and her brother that makes the things for them, I'm the only one that knows because she know's I'm not against it.

I would consider it, only if it was medical MJ.
And I'd never tell my child they were having something "different".

But then again I'd worry that the school would notice, call CPS, and I'd get my kid taken away for abuse or endangerment. So idk.

Yeah but if it was legal wouldn't it be the same as giving your child other medications to calm them down? Like giving your child ridilin if they're hyper before school
