parents living with you

posted 22nd Feb
Lets say your mom or dad retired and can no longer afford to live on their own. Would u let them live with you and pay rent?

My mother is 62 and retired and lives with DH and me and pays half the rent and the internet and she watches DS while i am at work.

Seems reasonable i think, esp if you're buying all the food and paying other bills

Not on your life. I love my mom and dad but so long as I am married they aren't living with me. Living with other people puts to much strainon a relationship.

If it came down to it, I guess but I'd hate every second of it. I would definitely try to get them to stay with one of my three siblings first.

i love my mother, but we don't mesh. never have. we've finally gotten to wear we can be adults about things. took having DD (we fought the whole pregnancy) for her to change. I'd want to kill her if she lived with me again. Just my dad, would be a total blast. he's COMPLETE opposite of her. Mellow, not overly opinionated, and reserved (to name a few of MANY).

Yep. We have always assumed that my MIL would come to live with.us when my FIL dies. Our future home will have a suite for her.

I would allow my mother to move in with us, but I do not believe I'd ever allow my FIL to move in with us.

My mom has Asburgers and PTSD from childhood and can't work so she lives with us... Rent free, bill free.. And "can't" watch the kids even long enough for us to run to the store unless they are asleep   I hate it- but it's this or let her be homeless what am I supposed to do?

That and she complains about all our "rules" like dog has to be outside or in her room, we won't let her have a hot plate in her room, you know basic smurf.. She cooks god knows what in that room and has the whole upstairs stinking.. She'll come out of her room get the kids riled up and then tell them she doesn't feel good enough to play with them...

It blows   your situation sounds better!

No. My mom complains about way too much and it really stresses me out so her living with me after having lived with her for so long would not be an option. It's a good thing I have other siblings, she can live with them. lol My dad on the other hand, well he can come live with me.

I would do my very best to see that he had some where to go, but no probably not. I believe if my FIL moved in then I would move out for the sake of my marriage, honestly.
