what would you do?

I have a crazy crack head neighbor that has a semi mentally retarded son. I understand that he cannot control a lot of what he does, SO's uncle is also mentally retarded and it's hard to explain things to them. That I get, but when we do explain things to him in a slower manner, he does understand.

LO and the neighbor's kid share a wall (we live in a row home/town home) and you can hear everything! The kid bangs his feet, or what sounds like his whole body, against the wall time and time again through the night. It sounds like he is throwing a friggin boulder at the wall sometimes. It wakes LO up all the time! We bought an air purifier over the summer, and luckily it does help to drown out the noise most of the time. But lately we can still hear the kid even if we have the purifier on high. He screams at the tops of his lungs and bangs smurf against the wall through the night.

I've nicely talked to his mother about it, multiple times, and she said she will talk to him and ask him to stop, and even said she apologized, understands, and will make it stop. I've even talked to the kid and asked him if he would mind not banging and screaming through the night. He felt so bad, and apologized and said he would stop.

I know he is mentally retarded. He's not full blown retarded to where he cannot function. You'd think he's a normal kid if you didn't know. So I fell bad to a point. But I'm just at my witts end since it's always waking LO up and I have the hardest time getting him to go back to sleep.

I just don't know what to do, should I talk to his mom again (even though I fell like I'm talking to a wall when she's high)? His mom is effing crazy. Tell her it's waking LO up even more at night now? Idk what to do. ugh! I want a single home!

It's so crazy obnoxiously loud.

Has anyone ever dealt with a situation like this before?

Can you switch rooms with your LO? At least then he won't be woken up.

no   his room isn't even big enough to fit our queen size bed. Literally, it's like a glorified huge closet. That's what I've always called the back rooms in this neighborhood. I had the same size room growing up and there is no way me and SO can fit in there.

I would do it in a minute if we could. But unfortunately, all the rooms in this neighborhood are the same size and layout. I can't wait to move and get away from our crazy neighbor and have more space!

LO did have a bigger room, but we had to move upstairs from our apartment in the lower level after a leak that ruined our carpets, It's only temporary, but we're not sure how temporary it will be.

Like I said, his mom is efffiin craaay cray! I'm not sure if I should talk to her again and still be nice, or just straight up tell her you need to tell you kid to stop.

I understand he is mentally retarded, but he isn't THAT bad. I just feel it's common courtesy as a parent to control you kid if he is off the wall disturbing you neighbors in all hours of the night. I have no remorse for the kid anymore. You ladies have nooo idea what we've had to put up with living here with this family next to us!

I would probably move that would drive me insane!!!

I had an autistic neighbour that would clap all the time, yell outside and take his diaper off but our houses weren't joined so it wasn't a problem at all.
If I heard banging all the time I'd lose it too. I can't even stand when it's my own family members lol

the who family is just girnorant. the mom is high half the time, the kid at one point walked into our house and sat on our couch while SO was home one day. Luckily I wasn't or I would have flipped out. He's broken 2 swings the we bought for our front porch, always sits on them after asking him not too since he has his own. His very overweight and is just all around an ignorant kid. His mom is no better. Hammers smurf late at night, idk wtf else she does over there but she is just as bad as him with the banging and yelling. That's why I don't know what else to do.

Oh god that along with the banging would drive me insane.
I used to live in housing projects and I eventually asked to be relocated. The neighbors would smoke so much it stunk up my house, they were loud all the time, and there was this little girl who would take Johanna's toys off the front porch and take them home or break them. I found her in my kitchen getting food one day when I came out of the bathroom. She used to ring my doorbell nonstop and bang on the windows. She would tell DD (only a year and a half old at the time) to come out and play and I would say no and she would try to tell DD it was ok and to come on anyway.
One day I even found that little girl 2 blocks away playing on the sidewalk alone with no shoes. She couldn't have been older than 5.

I left ASAP.

I've never hated people as much as I hate my neighbors. I don't want to say i hate the kid, because he's a kid. He's only 13. I've seen moments where he is nice, but that's when he's talking to himself. He's even pissed on our grass one time. It's so smurfing crazy.

I used to grow green beans and tomatoes on my back porch. I only got to eat one harvest. As soon as they were ready to be picked, one of my neighbors would pick them when I wasn't home or sleeping. I never figured out who. It pissed me off so bad! I grew those for me, not to feed the neighborhood.

Yeah I bugged the hell out of the housing authority until they moved me. I was up there like every other day or calling them.
I actually liked where they put me when I relocated. I stayed there over a year. It was quiet and everyone was nice. So much different than the straight up ghetto I came out of. Lol.

Firstly, mentally retarded isn't a very PC term anymore.

Secondly, I work with people with special needs, and there is really not a whole hell of a lot you can do when they're having a behavior. What do you want her to do? Tie him up? Lock him in a cage? You seriously sound like a smurfing bitch the way you're talking about this poor kid. He's DISABLED and you're sitting here calling him crazy and saying you hate him because he doesn't have the mental capacity to control himself?

I don't think she was trying to be mean. She was venting. Mentally disabled or not, I'd be pissed if I had to put up with the banging and him breaking my stuff and just coming into my house.
