Two vessel umbilical cord

posted 21st Feb
i recently had my 20 week ultrasound in which they informed me that i have a two vessel instead of three vessel umbilical cord. They didn't give me much information just referred me to a specialist? does anyone have this similiar issue or know anything about it. google is less than helpful and doesnt give much info.

I have a 2 vessel umbilical cord as well. I don't really know much either except what my ob told me. She just reassured me that it very rarely causes any serious issues and that they were just going to keep a close eye on her heart to make sure she is getting a sufficient amout of blood. I haven't read much on the internet because I don't wana scare myself. She has a healthy strong heart so far and she moves all the time so as of right now it doesn't seem to be affecting anything. I know this isn't very informative lol sorry just thought it may ease your nerves a little. Good luck with everything.

My baby brother had a two-vessel cord. All they did was do a few extra ultrasounds to make sure everything else was developing correctly and getting enough blood. He's now a happy, healthy 18 mo old.

Everything will be ok mama! Just stay positive!

I have a happy and healthy 4 year old who had an two vessel umbilical cord. She was born with only one functioning kidney but that has never given her any problems. A two vessel cord is actually most common abnormality of the umbilical cord and most babys are born with no problems.

I have it too from what I know it is where your missing an artery vesselwhich is the one that helps with oxygen but its not a big deal cause the other artery just works double time for what it's missing ... I'm 33 weeks and baby is estimated 4 pounds 13 ounces ..... They also say a two vessel cord can restrict growth that's why you get extra ultrasounds ....my baby is prlerfectly healthy and growing normal so I wouldn't worry too much

I Had a two vessle cord with my daughter which they referred me to a specialist and kept a close eye throughout my pregnancy. Due to the two vessle cord, Harley had a hard time growing in the third trimester. They induced me at 36 1/2 weeks cause she hadnt really grown much since my last ultrasound. I didnt understand how they were saying she was small but i was HUGE where it looked like i was having triplets, nor was her head going to fit if i gave birth naturally..but she was born at 5lbs 1.3 oz. 19 1/4 inches long through c section. She also has a pelvic left kidney..functioning but just lower than the right. Aside from her double inguinal hernias (which has nothing to do with the cord, just for the fact she was preemi) she's a healthy, extremely happy 5 month old..a teeny 5 month old that still fits into newborn clothes but all the doctors are extremely impressed with her progress. Im told two vessle cords are very common and very often result in healthy babies. I wish you lots of luck, and if not me I hope some of these mommas help put your mind at ease some..

i had another ultrasound done to check out all of her organs and make sure everything is how its supposed to be and they found that she only has one functioning kidney which is quite common in two vessel cord babies. She is however growing normally in size and i have monthly ultraosunds to check on her. Keep us in your prayers!!!
