Baking homemade cookies HELP!

So I am making homemade lemon sugar cookies. I'm beating by hand and forming the dough myself because I don't own a beater. However, the mix is WAY too flour-y. I've only used ingredients it called for. How do I soften it up? TIA.

I would add more butter. And cookie dough is usually firm, but if it's brittle (I'm guessing that is what you mean by floury?) I would start with adding a little more of the fat/oil so that would be butter with this recipe.

I'll try a bit more butter and maybe another egg   What about some oil? Would that help? I'm a bit low on butter.

I would definitely try some egg.   And I'd try oil too. lol. But I often stray from recipes...

I for sure strayed from recipe. I've never made homemade cookies before so I'll be curious to see how they turn out. LOL
