i'm kinda just waiting til baby three gets here to figure out exactly what i want.

I wasn't married for my first 2 sons so the oldest has his dads last name and the 2nd has my last name. I knew that I would eventually get married and have a different last name than him, but it was about carrying on my maiden name since my dad had no sons. Also, my 2nd son was given my pawpaws middle name (he was a huge part of my life, and died when I was 13 at 100yrs old) so I wanted him to share my pawpaws full name.

DD has mine b/c bd is not part of her life. If he was a part if it even if were not together she would have his.

And I have no idea, I'm thinking school forms and such, it can be hyphenated without any legal documentations. But to get it changed on her BC/SSC we'd have to go to court over it, which her dad won't ever go for, even though he's in her life 2% of the time.  

my 4 year old has her fathers last name and I hate it. I am not allowed to change her name without written consent from him and he's the worlds biggest a-hole so it'll never happen. he actually holds it over my head to try to get me to do what he wants. he's disgusting. I only ask for it to be hyphenated.
she's convinced her last name is Gooberton anyway, so it doesn't matter.
my littlest has mine and SO's named hyphenated, and when we marry I'm hyphenating mine.
I hate that all our names are different. I'm hoping one day my ex will let me hyphenate my daughters so at least me and my girls will have one common name.

we were not married when my daughter was born, but we had plans to eventually get married (we married when my daughter was 1.5), so I gave her his last name.

in your case I would want to stay consistent and give the new baby the same last name as your daughter.

I wasn't married when the kids were born. They have both of our last names.

Please don't take offense to this but I think it's really weird and silly for Clara to have both last names and the new baby to have just Jason's.

I agree! Why not just do the same with the new baby? If you end up getting married then both kids can drop your name.

cos i already agreed to just using his last name. together our last names are just a mess of 16 letters.
