If you were to teach...

posted 21st Feb
If you had to use your talent, and teach children, what would you teach them?
You can think out of the box. Music, dance, knitting, cooking, spanish, literature, money management, etc. Our co-op is trying to put together a list of things we may want to eventually teach, but I'm having a really hard time thinking of more subjects/activities.

Ideas? What we have as of now:

Science Experiements
Art History
Sign Language
Music
Movement/Dance
Foreign Language
Photography
History/Cultural Studies
Computers
Geography
Health
PE
Etiquette
Basic cooking/advanced cooking

Cross stitching or embroidery but if I was a student I think it would be really fun to learn to sew. I'm just now picking up on it.

Basic building. Think tree house. Woodburning using a soldering iron.

Scrapebooking.

It would be either budgeting or the love of giving.

Every 5th Thursday of the month (which happens a few times a year) and every 5th time it is our time to host, we do a service opportunity. This next year will actually be my 5th time, and I'm trying to decide what to do. So, we've made sure that's part of our co-op!

I love service projects! I'm trying to come up with one for my students that they will like doing. I'm thinking of making care packages for our homeless population.

That's a good idea. I'm torn. I was thinking perhaps we could get together at my house, bake something, and then deliver it to a new mom together. OR we could actually get involved in the community. We've already gone to the animal shelter, we've gone to a school for the blind (where the kids learned about braille), and now it is my turn. So, I need to quickly find a good idea!

When is it exactly? Is it going to be warm enough to be outside? I say clean up the outdoors, plant some flowers, etc.

It is next Thursday, 10am. We want to garden with the local food pantry's garden this spring/summer. We think that'd be a great one to do for all ages. It's probably still cold to really get them out right now (especially the really littles.)

Oh definitely.

Hmmm....do you have any people in your church (elderly or sick) that could use a hand? Maybe go over there, cook and clean for them, etc.

We've had a few babies born, but they're all still getting meals from our meals on wheels ministry that I'm in charge of.

Visit people in the nursing home! So many people in there have no family to visit them and they love kids. Make them little cards to hang in their rooms.

I'm also considering this. I'm thinking about encouraging the moms to pre-make little pictures of something for the kids to bring along, and then perhaps go to a nursing home and pass them out. There are just so many ideas.

I'd like to help somehow at the food pantry that we used when DH lost his job. I'm going to call there first tomorrow, and go from there.
