You are going to get a million responses that a nice camera doesn't give you professional pictures, because it's true. I have a Nikon D5000 though.

D7000 is nice.
I would start with something like the D3000 though it's simple to learn.

I have the D3100. It was a good starter camera. I just did lots of reading to learn how to use it on manual. Auto is really easy though.

Yeah the truth is that those kind of cameras are more expensive because you can produce nice pictures if you learn how to use your camera. Most will say put your camera on manual and never take it off. I myself have had my camera for over 3 years and I'm still learning manual. I didn't put it on manual though right away. There are cameras where you can get nicer pictures and not have to spend a lot of money I'm sure that aren't DSLR. If you want a DSLR though then by all means buy one lol. I know they don't sell mine anymore, at least not new. I know the 5100 is similar though.

There is a photography thread on here where you can learn a lot from. Or you can look online as well.

Yeah I don't blame you on that. And I'm in that thread and I've learned a lot just by reading through it so I would def. recommend it!
