Play

So I want to know. And please everyone, do NOT judge each other. This is simply a question stemmed from academic curiosity. Since I've been talking a lot of ECE classes lately. How much time do you spend on the floor playing with your children 0-5? How much TV, computer, IPad time do they have? How much independent play time do they have with toys? And how often do they have outside play time?

the tv is on a lot in the house but its not like hes watching it all the time. he just likes that background noise. most of the day is independent play since hes almost 5 and enjoys entertaining himself. depends on the day, some days i have crafts and activities to do with him, other times if he asks me ill play with him. but usually he just wants to be in the same room as us but is fine doing stuff on his own. outside time obviously depends on the weather.. during the winter not so much, very rarely unless theres a sunny warm day. but spring/summer we love being outdoors. and he has a leappad, and a wii, and he only plays with them a few times a week here and there, not too often

I spend a lot of tome on the floor with my youngest. My oldest has too much TV time and not enough outside time in the winter, but in the summer it's a completely different story. They both have a decent amount of independent/playing with each other time. I can't give you time frames because not every day is the same - we have no schedule whatsoever lol.

DS is only 10 months old now. I spend probably 75% of the time on the floor with him. The only time when he plays by himself is while I eat breakfast. I sit on the couch and eat, and he plays on the floor by himself.
The TV doesn't come on until he goes to bed. Sometimes DH will turn it on while I'm cooking dinner and he's on the floor playing with DS, but the most DS ever sees the TV on is 30 minutes or so.
When the weather was nice, we went for walks every day. When it gets nice again we'll probably go on walks again or to the park, since DS loves being outside. We're looking at building a house right now, and one of our requirements for our lot is to have a big backyard for a swingset, etc. I think it's so important for kids to be outside.

I spend most of the time on the floor playing with my kids, not sure of exact amount. DS gets anywhere from 2-3 hours of screen time and DD gets none (she's only 3 months.) Not sure of an exact amount daily of independent play, and depending on weather DS gets an hour outside (some times more if the weather is nice.) If the weather is yucky I try to either take him to an indoor play ground or I will move his small slide and sensory table into the house so he can play.

the tv is on most of the time. dd is addicted to spongebob and likes listening to it. we probably spend a couple hours a day chasing her through the house and letting her chase us. not all 2 hours together just through the day as a get up and move thing. we sit with her and love on her tons read to her and teach her new things.

Yeah T.V. is on a lot at my house. Recently trying to cut down but there's usually a wiggles tap or a sesame street dvd on in the backround. DS has a lot of trouble playing by himself so I have to get down on the floor and play most of the time. But I'm a little worried about how much T.V. he watches. I'm sure it will be better when it's warm again.

T.V. is on the Sprout channel pretty much all day at my house. But the kids don't pay it too much attention, except when a few certain shows come on. I'd say they probably only pay attention to it about 2 hours, and the rest it's basically background noise. They play independent a lot, the older two. And they play together. DD2 is only 5 months, so a couple times a day I'll give her tummy time for as long as she'll do it, which is usually only about 10 minutes, give or take. She's not crazy about it yet. Once she decides to become more mobile I'm sure that will change and like the other two, I will be on the floor with her the majority of the time. Right now, with her not loving tummy time, I'm not on the ground playing with the kids much. And we go play outside probably 2 times a week  . Once the weather gets nicer and the baby is older, we will be outside more. Right now, it's just very tiring trying to be out there will all 3 kids and all. DH usually doesn't come outside with us so it's all on me when we play outside, unless we go to the park, which we try to do once a week. And the kids don't touch the computer. DD1 has a Leapster 2 that she's not crazy about, I try to get her to play it about once every 2 weeks or so.
