Would you do this or is it neglect? (Poll)

I have a friend who lives in an apartment complex with her husband and DD (around 8 months). They're good friends with their upstairs neighbors- have known each other for years, moved into the same complex to be closer, etc.
After they put their DD to bed, they sometimes go up to their neighbor's apt and hang out, watch movies, play board games, etc. They say that it's completely fine, since they have a movement monitor, bring the monitor with them, make sure all of their doors and windows are locked, and live in a safe neighborhood. They don't see it as any different than if they were living in a two story house and were hanging out downstairs while their baby slept upstairs.
What are your thoughts? Would it matter to you if it was the neighbor directly above you, vs. down the hall, or two floors up?

I'd do it.

I used to go to my downstairs neighbor and chat while my babies slept.

Or after the kids bedtime, I'd go sit outside to read.

There are a lot of people in my apartments that do this, especially over the summer when everyone hangs out outside.

I would do it. Their child is in a secured home, they have a monitor and they're upstairs, pretty much.

As long as they have the monitor and know it works fine, it's fine.

It's no different than me sitting outside on the patio at night. I still hear my DS.

During the summer me and DH hang out outside while the kids are napping.

I did it once and couldn't even enjoy myself. I freaked out about leaving DD and went home. I knew people that did it all the time.

I'd do it, only with a monitor though.

I don't see that as neglect. I wouldn't do it simply because I don't have a baby monitor. But if it's in the same building I don't see a problem.

Ehhh.. That's a hard one. I don't think I would do it. Then again I have no problem being outside when I have a monitor.lol. Far from neglect for sure.

I'm not sure if I would or not, I might be more likely to invite the neighbours over after the baby was asleep (we do that a lot now, in our house  ).

I do go outside in the front or backyard during nap time (and take the monitor with me). Sometimes I even walk over to the mailbox or talk to close neighbours (outside).

With a monitor it's fine. As long as they go check on her periodically. I see no biggie.

If there's a monitor and they're checking, then I don't see it as a big issue. I definitely wouldn't call it neglect.

As long as they have the monitor and at least check on her I don't think it'd be a big deal.

When the weather is nice out DH and I would always step outside our apartment for awhile while the kids nap and if we're out there more than 5 minutes I always come back inside to make sure they're okay.

See I'm the same. Another of our friends (we were all out to lunch together) was saying "I just don't see how you could neglect your child like that!" I thought it was a bit harsh, since I don't think it's neglect at all.
I don't think I could do it, but I'm paranoid that the apt would catch fire, or carbon monoxide would leak, or someone would break in, etc.
