1st birthday party

Even though DD's birthday is 3 months away we're wanting to go all out since it's her 1st, so we're planning now. Expenses were going to be split between my mother and MIL but now that DH has a job, i want us to be more involved so to speak. My mother has decided she wants to do an ice cream theme. which i'm not big on themes so that's fine with me. So far she has an ice cream buffet and cupcakes in ice cream cones (from pinterest). We have no idea for games, or any other decorations.

1st, The guest list we're looking at is mainly 3 and under for the kids, with the exception of a 6 yr old and 9 yr old. i was thinking about telling the 9 yr old's mom to have her bring a friend, what do you think? What are some games for this age group? we're thinking an outside party if the weather cooperates.

2nd, as for the cakes. i INSIST on having a smash cake for DD. would you make it special or pretty basic? which cake would you put more into decorating? would you have the cakes follow the theme or something for DD specifically? (for example she likes ducks- not an ice cream thing imo).

3rd, what are some decorations for outside that are ice cream themed?

4th, this is probably a stupid question but would you invite non-related friends that don't have kids?

possibly a post and run.

1st, you wont find most games for that young... maybe look into a bounce house? or something along those lines... activities for them to do.. coloring pages? decorate your own felt ice cream cones? pin the cherry on the ice cream? etc...

2nd, aim very matchy matchy... so i would make the cake match... maybe do a scoop of ice cream. that would be super cute!!! (so it looks like it fell off a cone.. and have her playing with a big cone made out of posterboard)

3rd, you can use paper laterns, and rolled paper and make ice cream cones, or do paper mache shapes? or make your own banner, etc... tissue pom pom balls are always cute and simple too

4th, yes yes yes! usually parties for kids this young is a parent thing! lol invite your friends. celebrate 1 whole year of a healthy life!

for a smash cake it wont smash very pretty.. lol
and IMO its nasty. lol taste like rubbery sugar. BUT all my birthday cakes i usually go for it because it looks pretty :/ lmao...

not for the smash cake, though DD loves food so much she'd probably eat it without hesitation. but like you said, doesn't "smash" well. my baby shower cake had it but i can't for the life of me remember how it tasted...

lol there are a few diff kinds... marshmellow and regular and then you can get it flavored too. lol

i didnt like the texture. it was like rubbery

Those are all so AWESOME! esp the last one! there's some good ideas there. i'll have to show my mom. i didn't know there were different types of fondant...  no clue what mine was...

this year is mermaids   i wish we had the funds for another huge party but sadly we dont this year :/
but im still doing some stuff..

next year im going all out though. lol already started buying.

then i found my cricut.. and fell in love with making party supplies.
and i LOVE planning parties... soooo its more fun for me to do it. lol
my wedding was ALL DIY too lol
