Toddler ADHD?

posted 21st Feb
I came across a site that listed 10 symptoms of ADHD in toddlers. My son shows 9 of them. I have never thought he could have it. I just thought it was normal 3 year old stuff but now that I look back the bad behavior started when he was 18 months old and has continued to get worse. I can't believe i'm just coming to see that some of these things aren't normal. he wont really look you in the eye, he gets really fixed on games on my tablet, phone, his mobigo ext..( that's ALL he wants to do now), he has trouble sleeping, and he is very impulsive. His dad was diagnosed with ADHD as a child and I have ADD. I'm gonna bring it up to his pediatrician. I was hoping I could get some advice from mommies that have children with ADHD or ADD.

Try eliminating gluten and artificial food dyes especially red lake 40 and stuff like that. Also try an all natural non toxic soap and lotion or at least a dye and fragrance free. The gluten, casein and food and product dyes are known to cause ADHD. You really gotta read labels carefully to see that so many products have these ingredients

A 3 yr old has no comprehension of what he's doing. I wouldn't even begin to worry about that until 5 or 6 when they can make cognitive decisions. He's at an age where you're still trying to even establish behaviors, period.

Thanks! I will try that.

I have an ADHD daughter, the tablet thing doesn't sound right.. My daughter cannot focus on anything for more than a few minutes without her meds.

What it is your noticing? It's really easy to worry if you have a partner with it or another child.. My second daughter has charactisitcs but its from watching her sister.

My 13 month old goes nutty after having bread or dyes and is a little violent.she gets cranky and irritable. I can always tell when she has had it. It is not that easy to do I will admit but it is worth it. My cousin is celiac (allergic to gluten) and had severe sensory disorders and ADHD until they diagnosed him at 6 years old. He is like a new kid now.

I understand that but they start showing signs early and I'm hoping there are things I can do now to help him. I still struggle with my ADD to this day. My mom never tried to help me learn how to deal with it. She just dosed me up on Ritalin (which will not be happening with my kids). Maybe if he does have it I can do things to help him. I'm also scared that if he does have it I could be punishing him for things he can't help

I wonder just how much stuff we eat have those things in them.

I think you are right for noticing signs now. I have ADD , sensory disorders, ocd and dyslexia. I've been doing a lot of research on food lately and am trying to go 100% gluten free and watch additives. Meds make me sick and cause ill effects. I am a firm believer that what we put in our body affects our mental behavior, mood and the way we look and feel. Since going to a 51% raw food or at least 51% plant based slightly cooked, limiting sugar and trying to eliminate gluten I feel so much better. I also take a few high quality vegetarian vitamins. Now when I eat, I eat for fuel and I gave energy. When I do slip up bc I'm not perfect, I feel sluggish, tired and sometimes get headaches.

I have found that ginko biloba helps my ADD and dyslexia and Sam e or St johns wort helps my ocd and overall mood. I take a b complex for energy and d3 and e bc I have a vitamin d defiency which causes fatigue, depression and irritability. The vitamin e makes it asborb better. I also take fermented cod liver oil blended with butter oil.

Good luck momma   if you need any more info or curious on food to cure disease or disorders let me know.

So many   all wheat and white flour has gluten, even some granola and oatmeals. Rice, coconut, arrow root and potato flour don't have gluten. They make a lot if premade food items that are gluten free though. I won't lie, it doesn't taste the same as regular breads though.

The dyes are like red 40, lake blue, yellow 20. Stuff like that. Most natural products will list natural ingredients like beets as a dye. Did you know shampoo and conditioner uses these same dyes too? Smh

What got me was looking at the ingredients of a nutigrain bar in the us and in the uk. They are the same thing but other countries regulate ingredients different and harsher than we do. Ever wonder why americans are so fat and sick?

There is a cool book called wheat belly.

My eyes really have been opened to food, especially seeing my cousin doped up and like a zombie then just changing his diet and 2 weeks later the was a happy calm kid.

DS's check up is next month and I plan on bringing it up. I'm worried about it but I honestly believe he has it.

I give you the same advice   check food and products before pushing meds. It is worth a try. Even if it doesn't work for your child.

We have; it didn't do a think. I was thought to be gluten intolerant and we eat very little processed food. And so, I'd rather avoid medication.

It says that tunnel vision with certain things like video games is a symptom. It is normally seen in teens and adults but it can be seen in kids too. He can't focus (except on the games), he wont really look us in the eyes (I have always had this problem), he is hyper and very easily distracted, he will not do what we tell him to do or he will for a little bit and its right back to doing what he was told not to do.. kinda like he forgets. Example: His dad had to get him down from our headboard post (which are very high) today. He was trying to jump. Well I go back in there & he doing it again even though when he got stuck earlier he was very scared. Which also goes along with impulse control. He has trouble sleeping.

I know a 3 year old hasn't developed the skills to control certain things and I'm not saying that he should be behaving exactly like we want him to because he is still developing but it seems like nothing gets better. It doesn't seem like he is learning.
