breatfeeding help

posted 20th Feb
DS bit me a couple of days ago hard and caused a deep sore on my nipple. I went to the doctor and he said it was bad enough to stitch but with all of the milk leaking out of the sore it is pointless I was supposed to go back in today because it has become infected, but we got hit with a major snow storm my doc can't even call in antibiotics for me because its over 30miles to a pharmacy. I have been hand expressing from that side because pumping hurts too much. my questions are is there anything I can do to help the infection because by the looks of the massive amount of snow still falling I wont be going anywhere tomorrow, how do I keep him from doing it again, and how can I keep from drying up? anyone who can help???

You can try gently hand expressing, avoiding the infected area. That should help keep you from drying up, although you'll likely see a decrease in supply.

Nothing is helping he bit into the ducts and there is constantly milk leaking out of the sore. He would have called in antibiotics but were in the middle of a blizzard and our doc and pharmacy are aver 30 miles away even with our 4x4 pickup were not going anywhere

*prays that DD never gets teeth*
I'm sorry, mama. I wish I knew what to tell you, other than I don't hear of this often so you probably won't have to deal with it again.

I had this issue. It hurts BAD, I almost threw up from the pain. I got out my "baby book" by Dr sears because it was so painful I was scared to keep nursing!
His book had some good advise and I used it and it worked!

There are a lot of tips about easing teething pain before nursing. Like Acetaminophen, Cold compress, chew toy, breast milk pop. So do all that stuff before nursing so your baby is in as little amount of pain as possible.

Then as soon as your LO bites you pull them into you hard, so they pretty much can't breath. You hold the baby's head hard against your chest until the baby realizes that this is not comfortable and they can not breath and then the baby will unlatch.

I had to do this about 5 or 6 times until my LO learned that biting equals not being able to breath. Then my LO never did it again. It is really hard to do, it hurts and then when you pull them to you they will try and push you away with their hands before unlatching. The whole thing is sad.

But it worked for me in just a few days. Day one my LO did bite a few times(not as bad as the first bite because of the acetaminophen and cold chew toys) day 2 of this I think a few times and then by Day 3 he was about done with it and would bite other things.

Good luck this method did work very well for me and I think it will work for you.

As of right now he doesn't have any new teeth coming in... and he did it while sleeping. I will def try that when he bites me while awake but IDK why he bit down so hard while he was sleeping. It is the most painful nursing experiance I have had and DD was tongue tied I dealt with blistered nipples for 18 months. He tried to latch on yesterday and I about peed myself
