afraid of baths?

posted 20th Feb
For some reason my 6 month old suddenly seems terrified of baths. She got herself so worked up in the bath today that she ended up throwing up. It breaks my heart to see her get so upset but it's not like I can just stop bathing her. Has anyone else had this experience? If so what do you do to help? We recently got her a new bath that she sits up in instead of laying down. Would this have anything to do with it?

It's possible. Maybe sitting up freaks her out when she's wet? When DS was that little we got him an inflatable ducky bath and he loooved it   it was from target or Walmart for like 12 bucks

That I could do. I didn't even think about that.

DD was suddenly afraid of baths around 24 months because we moved. We have to bathe with her now.

The odd part is she was trying to sit in her other bath. That is why we got her this one so she could sit up without getting mad.

LO did the SAME thing.

Turns out, he had the fear of the drain. Do you unplug it while baby is in there?

Anyways, I sponged bathed him for a month and had him in the bathroom with me while I took a bath. I played with him bath toys with him outside of the tub and made it look like a good time.

Next, I got him in the tub with me, on my lap. I sang his favorite song over and over again and made his duckie sing, too. Eventually he relaxed enough to get off my lap and play by himself.

Yours being so young, I would just cobathe and see how he takes it.

Maybe she just doesn't like the new bath? It could be uncomfortable or something. I agree with the other moms. Try co-bathing. DS is four now and we still co-bathe sometimes.

My youngest went through a short time where he absolutely hated baths, I did the wash cloth bath and periodically tried a regular bath to check his feelings on the subject. He didn't seem to mind showers as much with me. I'd place a washcloth between him and me to help with his slipperyness and would stand in a way that let his lap fill with water to get him used to it, he thought it was fascinating, and then I would soap him up and rinse him off as quick as I could and let him continue to put his hands in the spray for a while, he really liked that. He likes baths now, and hates showers, lol. He does not like getting his face or ears wet, so to wash his hair I have to warn him and then give him time to put his hands over his ears while I lean him back to wet his hair and then again to rinse his hair. I have to lean him back because no matter what I do, he always gets water on his face if I wash his hair while he's sitting up. Screams bloody murder, my ears could bleed, lol. Do you think your LO may be objecting to water in her face too? The upright position can make that more likely, or is her new tub painful for her to sit in perhaps? I tried baby baths when my kids were small but once they outgrew them I always switched to the utility sink and then to the bathtub. Maybe she just wants more freedom of movement, if she can sit up well, keep the water level low and just let her play in the big tub, it might help.

I had to stop cobathing a while back, it was fun while it lasted, but he was getting a bit too curious and not just with questions, so I figured it was time to stop, lol. When it's making me uncomfortable it's time. My oldest was a little older before he started getting too curious. Now they won't even bath together, little water wasters,   9 year olds seem to develop a sense of privacy overnight.

Lol. DS picks when he wants to co-bathe. A lot of the time I just say no not tonight just take your bath simply cause I don't feel like taking a bath lol. He has known the difference between girl and boy parts since he was about 2, it doesn't bother me. Every now and then he confirms and is like "I'm a boy I have a penis and you're a girl you have a vagina" lol. I just agree with him , because it is true lol.

Oh no I don't care about them remarking on the fact, it's when I practically have to manacle them to prevent the touching that decided me, lol. Uncomfortable is the least of my problems. how do you easily explain why it's not appropriate to touch mommy there to your 3 year old (my youngest started at that age). I understand he's curious, but I am not going to satisfy that particular curiosity, lol.

Oh! Lol..I haven't had that problem during baths lol. The worst he's done was grab my boob or try and flick my nipple lmao. He doesn't do it anymore because I told him it wasn't nice lol. We have told him that he is not to touch anyone's "no-no parts" just like her shouldn't let anyone touch his. He's done pretty good so far with it but he has no decency to not follow people to the bathroom   gotta break that...

My 9 year old has only recently learned not to follow people into the bathroom, well, most of the time anyway, lol. I never had too much issue with my kids around my breasts, they only looked at them if they were hungry, hehe, it does make for an awkward situation when your visiting a friend and your 2 year old suddenly pulls your top down cause he wants a snack, that was the beginning of his, learn your boundaries, and theres a time and place days. My friend was so shocked she just started laughing hysterically.
