slightly mortified

DD get's bathed every other day. well, yesterday my mother was looking at her head and said she has cradle cap. i was like "nuh uh!" and looked, sure enough, about a nickle sized spot of it on her soft spot. well, MIL said she'd scrub it off with a wet rag. Apparently DD's hair is a bit thicker than we thought so that didn't work. we just spent half and hour trying to scrape it off (as we scraped we realized it covered more than we thought and was thicker than we thought). How the hell did she get it this bad?! i SCRUB her head every time i bathe her! we put baby oil on it and i'm gonna be getting in the shower with her in a bit. how do i keep it from coming back once it's gone?

It's not caused by dirtiness..and you will probably get a lot of folks on here soon telling you to STOP bathing LO every day, it's excessive and can cause issues.

Keep up with the baby oil, and get one of the very soft bristled baby brushes and just slowly work it down. Trying to rip or scrub the chunks off can result in going too far and hitting raw tender skin so you need to be careful.

you might be scrubbing it too much actually. its not a big deal. just put some baby oil on it and what helped dd was i bought her some tear free conditioner.

And it has nothing to do with how you bathe her or anything. Most babies get it!!

Its dry skin and scrubbing it is probably making it worse. Moisturize it. No scrubbing.

The only thing that worked for my Daughters Cradle Cap was Selsome Blue.

And only bathe baby every other day or third day to keep her skin from drying.

Just put oil or lotion on her. Combing/rubbing it might be painful to her sensitive scalp. Cradle cap isn't from not bathing enough most of the time anyway, btw.

most of the time it's every other day but occasionally every 3rd day...i say scrub but i'm not really pressing down, just being very thorough.

It's the soap that's drying it, though. You're making it worse.

it happens. Just put a bit of oil on her scalp, it'll go away on it's own. Don't pick at it or flake it off.

My son had a severe case of cradle cap. I just really didn't know what it was.. so I left it alone. I had to massage his head in baby oil and slowly run a comb through his hair. It took about a week to get rid of it.

Nooope. Old info, always double check with the doctor or the interwebs, their experience is very outdated

No, that'll just make it worse. Don't worry too much about it. All 3 of my boys had it a little bit. I actually don't know many babies who haven't had it to some degree. Less is more. Don't mess with it much, oil her scalp. I liked the Burt's Bees apricot baby oil a lot.
