You are going to have to take pain meds for the first day or so, so you cant BF. And the first day you might want someone to watch him because you are going to be really tired.

Why are you having your wisdom teeth removed? Are they infected?

I had 3 pulled 2 weeks ago. They didn't need to sedate me or anything, just regular freezing. I went to work the next day.

Actually it is fine to breastfeed.

I did it with my DS before I decided to use it to explain to him he couldn't nurse becuase he would get sick (I was pressured into weaning him, but now I'm okay with the decision. He was 2 1/2)

How old is your LO?

Edit:
I did not get put under, I just got the numbing stuff.
If you get put under you have to delay an hour I think thats what my densist said anyway.

If you decline being put out for it and use local anesthetic instead, then there need not be any delay in breastfeeding, and none of that post-anesthesia grogginess. I didn't have a child at the time, but I opted for that route.

Also, they will probably give you either lortab or percocet post-surgery, both of which are fine to breastfeed with.

Not saying you are going to be comfortable, but you would be able to take care of a child and breastfeed.

I got two of mine out and was back at work an hour later..

All I can say is the swelling happened out of no where for me and talking is sore and uncomfortable with the pad in the back of ur mouth.

I was put under general anesthesia when I had mine removed, I don't know how soon you can nurse after that.

But they gave me Percocet for pain, which are safe to take while BF.

I got all mine extracted a year or two after my braces were removed. Sometimes when wisdom teeth break through, it can shift your other teeth.

I had all mine pulled, they were all 4 impacted under the gums, they put me to sleep. I needed help with my son for a good week.

I might have to ask my mom to take some time off work or something. But I have to get them pulled because my mouth is small and the teeth are already very crowded. If I let my wisdom teeth grow in they would be all crooked and it would be very painful (already is). But they are going to have to cut my gums and then cut the teeth into four peices to pull them and I think I wanna be put under for that. DS is only 3 months old and refuses the bottle

My wisdom teeth were still under the gums, so the gums had to be cut and the teeth had to be shattered and removed in pieces. I did it with local anesthetic, fully conscious. I'm rather resistant to local anesthetic, so it probably hurt way more than it would have otherwise.

Anyway, if you can't get baby to take a bottle, that is at least an option if your oral surgeon will do it that way.

Okay I will have to ask. You'd think that if my baby got hungry enough he would take a bottle though or what? I've tried a few times but give up after a while.

Some babies are very stubborn. Lol Mine started on the bottle...it took him two months of me pumping before he took the breast.

Keep trying, best advice I can offer you.
