Cervical Check and Membrane Sweep help
posted 20th Feb
Alright, So I am 38 or 39 weeks, as they think I may be a week further along than first thought but they cannot be sure... I am a first time mom and have been in and out of L&D for the past three days. I am really anxious to have my first daughter, as I am sure most mothers would be.
Anyway, I went in today(Wed.) at 9:30 for an appointment and went ahead with the cervial check. I am 2cm dialated and softened to 70%. They asked me if I wanted to do a membrane sweep and explained that it could speed up labor. I agreed.
Now here is the thing that confuses and concerns me..
Before when I was in and out of L&D and had a cervical check, I never once spoted, even when having sex..
But today after the appointment I spoted at around 1pm, which was 3 1/2 hours afterward. It had no discharge, just a dull brownish color as if I was spotting to start a period.
Then, three hours later, I started spotting again, this time a little brighter in color with some mucus with it along with more pelvic pressure than I am used to and what feels like menstral cramping.
Is this something I should be concerned about, or is it just nothing?

Could be the start of labor. Your cramping is possibly contractions and you usually have a bloody show before had. If the cramps start getting more consistent time them. GL momma

Thats normal because of the sweep, but sounds like light contractions (menstrual cramps)

Membrane sweep commonly causes spotting and cramping. If you're not due for another week or two though I don't understand why you even agreed to a membrane sweep.

That's normal, from the membrane sweep.

My midwife did tell me that spotting was normal up to an hour after it happening.. yet I've been spotting off and on since then, as well as cramping.

Me too. It's normal, I promise. As long as it isn't as much blood as your period/enough to fill a pad and bright red.

Well, I ended up going into L&D this morning and was there for 3 hours. Woke up around 6:30am with contractions and it kept happening, slightly getting stronger ever so slowly yet they remained speratic (sp). They ended up releasing me because I wasn't dialated to 4cm and they were too speratic. However, I had one that measured into the 60's on the monitor. Mom thinks it'll happen soon.

Not to be mean, but 60 isn't high at all and doesn't mean much if their jot consistent. My early labor contractions were in the 120's. Good luck!

For five days it continued on, went in on the 26th at 11pm and out came my little Trinity at 8:05am the next morning. Had an epidural and they had to lessen the dosage so i could feel slight pressure so I could know when to push on my own since I couldn't feel contractions.
Trinity was born 20in and weighed 7lbs 12oz
I love my little baby girl
However, during active labor the numbers only registered to 70, so I guess they just didn't place the sensor pad right.
