WIC question..please help

posted 10th Jun
Do any of you ladies know if Horizon Organic whole milk is wic approved? I just went to wal mart and there was a sign under the milk saying wic approved, so I bring it up the register to check out and they say yes it is wic approved but has to be in whole gallons, and well cant find whole gallons any where! So I call wic and they say its not approved , I'm confused, why would wal mart say it is and then the office say it isnt?

Maybe the wic office said it's not approved because it's not approved for you? I dunno. Some people have different needs and some things are approved for them and not others.

I have never heard of that being approved, but then again you are in a different state. That sign must have accidentally been put there because the store is saying it only covers whole gallons of that milk. I don't think they have whole gallons of that milk. I don't believe it would be a normally covered thing, it would have to be something special from WIC, it's usually only 1% milk.

I dunno, but if WalMart said it is then they'll take it... If WIC rejects it, then its on them.

WIC doesn't like having us get organic foods/drinks, because if it's got any kind of bacteria in it and something goes wrong with you or your baby, they don't wanna get blamed for it.

I know the website says it makes it but I have never seen it. But I was told by my daughter's doctor not to use Horizon milk.

What did your doctor say was wrong with it?

Really? Why? I'm curious!
I don't use Horizon, my kids are lactose intolerant so we use Lactaid. And I'm not on WIC so I don't know if WIC covers it or not. I do know that they do make a gallon of horizon milk and I have bought it before at Kroger.

This is what she emailed me when I asked about the milk.

"I've read that they milk their cows while they are pg so you are getting the natural hormones instead of the synthetic but they can still call it organic"

Here is a site that did ratings on differant organic milks.

WIC does not only approve 1% milk, once again it depends on your needs. When my son was switched from formula I used whole milk for him, so that is what they gave me. Now he is on 2%, so that is what they give me.

It is your responsibility to know what is WIC approved and what is not; therefore, it falls back onto you. From what I've heard, 9 times out of 10 WIC doesn't catch it though.
