re: Other people holding your baby.

posted 20th Feb
This kinds of takes me back to a day when my son was probably 3-4 months old and something hurt him. I dont remember what it was but when it happened my mother in law was in the room with my husband and she was holding him. I knew he was hurt because his cry was different so I came running to see what was wrong. I remember she was reluctant to give him to me as she was trying to soothe him and I was about to become furious and freak out....like hey lady I'm a brand new mommy and you better give me my baby or else!!!! I think I finally said give him to me enough times that she handed him over and I soothed him right away.

So....I know its hard to give your most precious babe to others. Is there a reason why is bothers you with your Aunt specifically? If you are holding your babe and not quite ready to give up, maybe try and find a nice way to say "give me a few more minutes " or something?

Good point lol.. I don't know why it bothers me it just does sometimes. Not the fact that she holds her just how long she holds her for.

If it is really bothering you just say something, like I need to change her or I'm going to feed her.

That's exactly how I feel. My grandma was holding her when she was screaming and she was like I'm fine holding her like this but I was like please just give her to me but she wouldn't. And her specifically because she will hold her forever and get upset when I take her back

The only advice I have:
Be generous with baby cuddle time, because you get to see your baby every day, and they don't. BUT remember that you are the only one who's job it is to keep your little one comfortable, so if she seems upset, bored, hungry, WHATEVER and your family is reluctant to give her to you, who cares what they think, you know? She's your child and YOU have to keep her happy, even if it means occasionally offending granny.   Steal her away and give her what she needs/wants.

This!!! Don't see the big deal I guess either. She's holding her not hurting her.

I see what you mean, when my mom and my husbands mom came to visit they wanted to hold my son which I understood was because they never seen him but now he always wants to be picked up because they did it so much. And when some of my friends hold him I dont let them outta my sight, hell sometimes I dont even like when my husband holds him. I just get really nervous and Im very selfish and I honestly just want him all to myself.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. This is exactly what I'm trying to say

oh i'm the same way! Especially the first couple weeks of life..If anyone held him other than me, it wasn't for long and I never took my eyes off of them. lol
now I'm a little better since i'm a single mom and enjoy a little break every once in a while but it doesn't take long for me to take him back!!

I had this issue when my kids were young too.

I would get jealous, I really wanted to soak up all my kids love and attention and everything.
I didn't want anyone else to have it.

I know, selfish.

I would suggest that you kind of just work it through. Let them enjoy your baby too.
