Weaning

I decided to let my son, Liam, self wean when he turned 2 in December. He was doing really well since my milk production had suddenly stopped around November due to me being pregnant again. I was really excited because I didn't want both babies nursing at the same time. Liam was finally almost completely uninterested and would only want his "Nurse Please" when he was exausted and couldn't fall asleep on his own.
Then in January, my colostrum started up again and he's way into nursing again! I've been telling him he's too big now and they're for his baby sister Sophie, who's due April 10, but he cries and cries and quite frankly, I've had a sucker stamp on my forhead since the day he was born. At this point, its only a night time thing again but I need some advice on how to encourage him to stop. I keep water by his bed at night for when he's thirsty but his little heart breaks when I tell him he can't nurse anymore. What do I do???

I did dont offer don't refuse. Then as she got to a point where she was only asking once a month I refused her. Biggest mistake I've ever made as a parent. She's sucked her thumb ever since. That was 2.5 yrs ago. She stopped at 2.5.

You're most defintely not a sucker for continuing to nurse your lo. Lots of people tandem nurse. But if your dead set on weaning him, just don't offer it any more. Tell him his milk went bye bye. Good luck, hopefully you'll get some good advice.

i'm just curious here but do you know if nursing while pregnant can effect you when you come nearer to your due date? I remember during my first pregnancy we go this whole lecture about beware of stimulating your nipple too much because it could bring on unwanted contratctions too soon and so on....would nursing do the same thing? Anyone know? LIke I said- just curious

Thanks ladies. I wouldn't mind letting him continue, but my Mother and Husband, at this point, don't even know about the night time nursing and they are completely set against it. Don't misunderstand me, my Mom and my Husband 99% of the time fully support me in anything that comes with life and the kids. So this 1%, I just feel like maybe they're right and it's time. We were so close and I'm having a hard time with that a little too. I'm ready for him to be done, but it's a comfort thing to him now and not a nurishment thing and I guess I'm trying to find a way to replace that. (that doesn't involve thumb sucking)

Honestly, I hadn't thought about that! I did have PTL on the 14th and he nursed a lot the night before, but I don't think thats what caused it.

I have always wondered about mothers that are nursing while pregnant becuase they really drilled that into our heads....I hope you find a good way for your little guy to find some comfort. Maybe something really soft and snugglie that he could nuzzle? Maybe make it smell like you? I'm kinda clueless with this cause my son weaned at 6.5 months and broke my heart....lol I'm over it now but i really felt rejected for sure...

Try a comfort toy ?

And as far as nipple stimulation goes as long as your preg is healthy and you've been nursing the whole preg it shouldn't affect labor. But with the ptl idk I'd be careful. But that can be a preg complication. I'd ask the dr but at the same time drs can be dumb to that stuff too. So idk.
