I do, but I feel guilty as hell about it, but it's also required by law here

We used topical anitbiotic and peroxide to kill the infection

Worked great and no vet needed.

We do the rabies shot, it's the law here.

I vacc kids and animals so I cant really give my opinion on it other than getting an animal vacced is a bit different mainly because their illness affects humans mostly in a dangerous manner.
So I wouldnt say it's hypocritical mainly because cats can pass on disease to humans and it's not pretty when it happens.

We did that at first, but he keeps fighting and now the infection is down in the joint so we can not treat it ourselves any longer. The vet said it is lucky we were able to keep it under control thus far. He hasn't put any weight on his foot in over a month. He has multiple bites on him.

Hopefully with him now being neutered the fighting will cease or slow down. We actually haven't seen him for 3+ months before this, we thought he had found a new home or had died. He is only here at "home", I believe, because he is injured.

I don't think animals should very vaxed either. Try peroxide on wounds. Also diamocus (sp is WAY) off Google DE but get a good quality food grade. It can be taken internally for inflammation and to deworm. It kills fleas and ticks too on the animal and in the house but be careful not to.inhale it.

No I would not vax ...especially since her immune system is compromis

ed right now. My dogs get the rabies vax once every 3 years and that is required by law. I have researched canine/feline vaccines as well...you gotta weigh your risks/benefits.

Also it could be possible that she has it but the antibodies haven't showed up yet...you may want to retest in a couple months. That particular vaccine is very controversial

You can request a three year vaccine....or find a vet that offers it  ...Some will say its not as effective as the one year....but honestly I would get titers checked before giving a vaccine every year like that....poor animals

I've had a dog get leptospirosis from the vaccine, but that was a long time ago and he had a cold at time of vaccination. Early this year though, we got two puppies and also vaccinated them (I guess were guilted into it by the vet as I'm anti-vax). They got their initial shots for parvo/distemper. Guess what? Within the month they developed parvo AND then distemper. What a coincidence... Once puppy made it, the other didn't. I'm pretty sure had we not vaccinated them, they'd be fine. Even if the viruses didn't come from the vaccines (which is very possible), their immune system was compromised by the vaccine.
