Seizures presenting as autism?

3/5 people in our family has epilepsy. DS is being evaluated by his school for autism. Between his staring off and family history they want him to get an EEG.

Would it be more likely that he has seizures and autism or seizures that are presenting as autism?

He was already diagnosed but the school wants to do an evaluation diagnose him themselves. The seizure talk has me thinking though.

The staring off in space is often a seizure itself. I have cousins with epilepsy and they have autism along with that. One of them is always seizing silently if that makes sense and he has regressed into childlike behavior. His older brother is autistic too but his autism is more dominant and epilepsy less dominant.

Regression is a big issue with him.

I'm assuming you guys have seen a neurologist. But they do have Zachary on one that softens the blow of each seizure. He is 12 and went from being 3 grade levels ahead to having the mentality and knowledge of a 5 year old. He is doing better now with help from meds.
