High platelet count in toddler.

So my daughter has been sick with a bronchial infection. Not eating and on amoxicillin. She had labs done yesterday and they called to tell me she has a high platelet count. I do not want to research it as I know words will pop up I don't want to see.
The nurse was talking in circles. She wouldn't really answer me or it sounded as though she was looking it up. She said it indicates inflammatory disease? What's that? She has to go back in two weeks for more blood work. Has anyone ever had this? What does it indicate? I don't want to be worried for two weeks.

It sound as if high platelets can be a result of inflammation which if LO has been ill I wouldn't be surprised if there was at least some inflammation somewhere in her body. The danger of high platelet count, if you don't take into account a more serious illness being the cause, is that it causes the blood to be thicker and the heightens the risk for blood clots. Granted with a young child, plaque buildups and such are not usually an issue, so bloodclots are probably less likely.
If there were a more serious condition linked to the high platelet count, such as leukemia, arthritis, or something along those lines, your dr.'s may still be trying to rule those things out, thus leaving the nurse not entirely sure of the cause. so in the process of trying to explain what could be going on with your daughters body, she simply gave too much information that may or may not pertain to your daughter.
Likely the cause of your daughters platelet count is simply a result of the inflammation of her bronchial tubes from the infection, so try not to worry too much. Wait and see, it is likely as your daughter's illness improves her platelet count will return to normal and all will be well. That is what I will be hoping for as well.

I don't know honestly. They said the rest of her blood work was normal. That's all I know.

I'm sure it's nothing so serious as the more worst case scenarios, I always like be well informed though, from the sounds of it her bronchial tubes are simply inflamed and her body is having a perfectly normal reaction to that inflammation. In an older adult who've had years of possible bad eating habits and such high platelets could be a very bad thing, but for a 2 year old it shouldn't be much of an issue. I hope she feels better very soon and that your worry for her eases. I feel the nurse should have tried to be clearer and more precise with her answers as it's making you worry unnecessarily, but unfortunately not everyone communicates easily and this can cause a lot of confusion on the listeners part, lol, I myself have a hard time communicating clearly when speaking verbally. It's so much easier to communicate with writing I think.

I agree. I prefer to write rather than speak sometimes. My point is made a lot clearer.
Thank you. They feel it may have been pneumonia which I read can chase high platelets. Or like you said the antibiotic. I hope it's not anything serious and the next round comes back normal.

Did they say how high the count is? Like just a little or significantly?
