Flag etiquette

posted 20th Feb
Does it bother anyone else when they see the American flag left out in the rain, raised at night with no light on it, or tattered, old ones just hanging there?

I know in the grand scheme of things, it's not a huge deal... but it really bugs me. In my eyes, it's disrespectful.

Not really. It's just cloth.

That's true, but it symobolizes our country and freedom, IMO.

I dont like seeing it touch the ground or tattered. That bothers me. The other stuff doesnt.

But LOL at taking it down every time it rains. That would be impossible in Florida. No flags would ever been flown here because it can rain at a drop of a hat and then stop 5 minutes later.

It does not bother me either. I like "weathered" flags,,,they are more like our country and what it means to me....we have been through the ringer and still we persevere...

idk my mom had one she would never take down and it got really tattered and nasty. my neighbor said something to me about it, i never thought about it. my mom said she didnt want to take it down until she got a replacement, like she was being noble or something.

i agree with the other ladies . its a piece of cloth. i think its odd that we revere it so much here. you are talking about taking it in like a dog from the rain. i appreciate what it symbolizes but idk. its just a symbol.

I hate seeing them torn or on the ground. I agree it is disrespectful.

At our last base, residents had to properly illuminate their flags at night or take it down every night so that does bother me and of course old raggedy ones bother me too. As for the weather, I know it's not supposed to be flown during bad weather but that can pop up at any time before someone has gotten the chance to fix it.

I may be wrong, but I heard most other countries don't treat their flags like we do here.

burning flag or something like that i can see getting pissed off about if its something that you really care about, but even then they have that right i guess.

I found this on a government website. So many rules... I wonder if they actually enforce them or if they're just "suggestions"

I was raised in a military family and was always told to respect the flag. My dad and uncles always made a big deal about it so yes it bothers me now as an adult.

For those who say tattered ones or ones on the ground bothers you and nothing else... why just that? There are so many rules, and all of them are considered just as disrespectful. Just curious
