Walmart catering to specific cultures....

posted 19th Feb
Has anyone noticed where they live that their local Walmart caters to the specific group of people living near the area? My Walmart used to carry A LOT of Spanish foods and there were a lot of Hispanic shoppers. All of the sudden in the past 2-3 months they have converted like 4 whole isles to Russian food/European foods. I would say a good 75% of the workers are new and Russian. Not that I care, but I am just noticing major changes and it seems that all of our Walmarts have a different theme per say.

Anyone else see this pattern at their local stores? No? Just me? lol

Haha yep. Hartford has a lot of Puerto Ricans so that Walmart is dubbed the ghettorican Walmart because it has random Spanish items you couldn't find at another Walmart. The Walmart closest to me is "normalish" I suppose.

I wish they did that here.

We have a spanish section...but I would kill for some English sweets and wheatabix(sp?) You can find all that in the Orlando Walmart.

Walmart also prices to the demographic of the area. Where I used to live, there was a walmart that was in the heart of a poverty stricken area that charged less generally then the walmart 10 miles away in a better area.

Yeah... one of the Wal-Marts in my city has their signs in English and Spanish. Of course, a lot of Hispanics live in that area. I don't think it's a bad thing. Good marketing, really.
