re: major gender disappointment

There are a lot of methods to help choose the sex of your baby. Some of the methods are very expensive, but they are available and do work. SO maybe you can just save up money for that rather than being so sad. No one can just "hope" for a specific sex and get it.

The rest of what I said it true though! I don't think gender disappointment is in any way wrong and it's perfectly natural what you are feeling.

Actually people have a 50% chance of hoping for a certain gender and getting it, LOL. Nobody can demand a certain gender but they can hope for it! Just saying!

Gender disappointment is normal. I wanted a daughter, but got a son instead. Like you said, I got over it quickly because he was my first born. With my second, I was obsessing over having a girl!! When I found out that my baby was indeed a girl, I got a bit of a heartache knowing I wasn't having a boy. So, even though I WANTED a girl and was PREGNANT with a girl, I still had some GD.

My first born was a boy but due to a genetic order he passed away. Every pregnancy after that we hope for a boy. I am currently carrying our 3rd girl! I am very happy but DH and I would like a boy to carry on the family name and he really wants a son. He wanted all boys really but here comes daddy's girl number 3. Lol

carrying on the family name is a stupid reason. So many people would be thrilled to have a healthy baby of any kind! I think when some of you grow up you will realize this!

Obviously having a healthy baby is most important, and most cant even begin to understand unless you have lost a child to sickness, disease, ect. But boys and girls are different. They do different things and the bonding when they are older is different for each parent. As far as carrying on the family name, it may be dumb to some, but when all of the boys in the family have been killed and you are the only one left and have been named after your grandfather, sometimes its more personal than just a name. I guess if you arent sentimental it dont matter but to each his own.

well that was a mean thing to say

SO would like to have a son for this reason, also. this isn't the ONLY reason he wants a son, but it is one of them. he absolutely adores DD, but we both wanted a boy for a variety of reasons and that was honestly one of them.

That's one of my many reasons too. DH's as well. I'm honestly surprised I didn't see a comment like that sooner

SO's family name is kind of dwindling now. he's proud of his heritage and history and wants to see it go on for his family's history.
we want a boy to play football with and other things. i know you can do boy things with girls (i was the only girl in a world of brothers and boy cousins and did everything they did), but it's always different with boys. idk, THAT comment kind of makes me feel like crap, but i can't help it.

i'm surprised by the comment about the last name, though. i've never heard of anyone thinking that was stupid before.

Yeah, other than his step brothers there's really not many other males in DH's family, there's none other than my two cousins in my family either
I have a lot of fun with my girls, don't get me wrong, but I want do the video games and comic books and stuff like that with a boy. Plus both my girls are very much daddy's girls. I want to have a littlr guy who will be a mommy's boy (at least while he's a little kid  )

well, here's to hoping for us getting our boys in the future!

In a family full of girls my aunt swore by the chinese gender calendar and got a boy. I know its a long shot but every baby I knew personally has fell under that calendar. Maybe when youre ready try that¿ What do you have to loose?

I cried when I found out I was having a girl with dd... Refused pink and purple but I slowly got adjusted. And im pretty sure ill be having a girl again. So ill try one more time for a boy. And ill ne going by that calendar lol

The chinese gender calendar actually said my oldest daughter was going to be a boy! So I'm a little skeptical of that now xP

The only thing I think I can do different is track my ovulation to make sure when we ttc that we baby dance when I'm ovulating and change my diet to more salty foods, red meats, eggs, beans, etc. Those are some tips I've read and heard about ttc a boy.
