posted 19th Feb
if you had to choose any type of birth control which one would you get? trying to decide!!! i have never been on one, and i plan on getting on one now... i have the patch cause i thought that may of been one i wanted to try but honestly after asking people about it and reading more about it im scared to take it, i'v heard people say it causes huge blood clots! i know everyones body reacts different with the birth control but anyways, which would you perfer? and if your on one, how is it working for you? thanks so much!

I've had the pill, Depo and Paragard and out of the 3 I would choose the pill. The Depo sucked and I had HORRIBLE side effects on it. I had the Paragarad removed two weeks ago because of nonstop bleeding the 5 months I had it. I wish I could go back on the pill but due to health issues I cant so now its just condoms and spermicide for us. Praying they actually do their job this time.....

Any birth control can cause blood clots.

These are the ones Ive been on

Patch-Loved it. No issues
Depo shot- no issues other than weight gain but i didnt watch what I ate which is a big factor.
Nuvaring-loved it. No issues
Nexplanon(new implanon)- currently have and love it. But its very similar to the depo! So keep that in mind.

I've had the Implanon since May of last year, and I haven't had any problems out of it. I had never been on any kind of birth control before either, and I got the depo in the hospital after my daughter was born last March. Then when I went for my 6 week check up my doctor and I decided on the Implanon, and so far so good, and no complaints here

if weight is an issue DO NOT GET DEPO! ive been yoyoing and really exercising and watching what i eat for monts and have lost maybe 10 pounds in ten months. before i got pregnant i was loosing 10 pounds a MONTH (i was 400 in 2010 got to 295 in 2011, got pregnant gained 50 lost 35 and have been fighting the same 15-20 for ten months now).

the really light super long periods suck to. and i had horrible headachs. plus if you want to have another baby in the near future it can take up to `18 months to get pregnant again. really wish i would have researced depo before getting it.

Weight gain is a side effect for ALL hormonal birth control not just the depo. And not everyone gets periods on it. I didnt not a single one, not even spotting. And it can take a very long time to get pregnant after any hormonal birth control after ending it because the hormones in your body have to balance back out. But in some case people can get a BFP right away.
Not everyone reacts to birth control the same.

i'v been really thinking of the implanon ( or now the nexplanon) my prenatel nurse said that's honestly the only one she reccommends. for the people who have had it, did it hurt getting put in? like what do they do exactly?
yeah i'v heard depo is one of the worse, especially in gaining weight but everyone is different, some people love it and never gained a pound! but i have had a weigh issue before, i use to be 206 at the age of 14! and i went on a diet and lost 90, got down to 119(: so im kinda wanting something that isn't going to make me gain a bunch of weight lol. i know any of them can cause weight gain but i'v just heard depo is worse about that!

It didn't hurt at all to get it put in.

What they do is have you put your arm over your head(laying down)
Give you a shot to numb the area and wait a bit
Then they use a pen looking thing and put the tip in your arm and hit the button to insert the rod.

Pain free for me. I bruised like crazy though because I'm anemic. but the bruise didn't even hurt. There's slight pinching while you heal but not a big deal.

I can post a video I watched on youtube that made me feel better about it if you'd like

Obviously some people don't like looking at needles that's why I asked first lol.

Honestly the only thing I felt was the numbing agent burned for a second. Everything else didn't even feel it. I even picked up my son right afterwards and it didn't bother me one bit

Here's the video!
