I didn't. Seems silly to me. I preferred to spend it on gifts for her.

My daughters 1st birthday is in 2 months and I don't really have a budget.

I didn't. We don't do parties though, my parents come over and thats it.

We spent about 300-400 on the decorations and food for my dd's first but we didn't really set a budget.

I don't want to go crazy and get too much stuff that we're not even going to need. I just know myself and I know that once I get to the store, I'll end up spending too much because everything is so cute lol.

I think I spent about $300 on decorations for the first birthday BUT that was because we were moving out of state and it was his (first and ) last party with family and my home friends. I did ALOT of DIY stuff too though, I personalized everything

I can't remember exactly how much I spent in total, but I don't think it was over $100 for decorations (banner, balloons,etc.). I had catered BBQ and sides (food was under $100) and I spent $115 on the cake. I will not go crazy with future children until maybe 2nd or 3rd birthday.

Well the cake was $77 and the food is probably going to be around $50. We're not having very many people since both of sides of the family won't be here. So we have a little extra for decorations but I don't think DH is going to want to spend very much!

I would keep it fairly simple and maybe get some balloons

Too much is relative to what you have to spend.
If money's tight, I'd say make sandwiches for everyone, put a few colored streamers up, and serve cake.
If you're not working on a tight budget, go crazy.
