Inducing questions....

posted 19th Feb
I've been having issues, and so the doctor is going to induce me... but he can't until i'm 39 weeks because of hospital policy.... a few years ago.... it seem like it was ok to induce anywhere from 37-39.... have hospital policies changed over the last few years? I was supposed to be induced with my third daughter at 37 weeks, but she came on her own before my 37 week... i'm in no rush, the doctor thinks the baby will come any day on his own, but I was just curious... I know some people counting on being induced at 37 weeks... but from what I read that won't happen at 37 weeks... unless medically there is an issue.

I was told it can't be done until 39 weeks unless medically necessary.

it's called not putting a child at risk by forcing it out before it's ready.

you're not "full" term until 39 weeks. at that point they consider it the "safest" time to start inducing a child. their lungs are more likely to be fully ready.

Stupid iPhone I wasn't done lol.
And most hospital don't support inducing because its a higher cost and higher risk for them.

I was induced at 37 weeks for pre-e. I didn't have a good birthing experience and would never recommend it.

I'm sure you'll be fine though - congratulations.

At my hospital 2nd+ babies can be induced at 39 weeks. First babies can only be induced at 41 weeks

I been induced several times.... I was just told I had to wait until 39 weeks, but he thinks the baby will be here sooner... which is fine by me lol... i'm not really in a rush... I just was curious, because i've had other friends get induced.... and she had to wait until 39 weeks as well... so I was starting think this was a new thing... because a few years ago they induced at 37 weeks.

I heard part of it was insurance policies as well.... they don't want to pay for the NICU.

These policies are always changing, and they should be. While 37 weeks is considered full term, it is still on the early side of full term.

I was induced with my first at 40 weeks.... her placenta was pretty well starting to age badly.... otherwise i'm sure he wouldn't induced me...

It's that way everywhere. I was induced at 37w in November, because of my previous stillbirth, and even then my doctor had to stretch the truth when giving a reason for the induction.

Yep! What should been my 37 week baby was more like 35 week baby... I wasn't induced but he was going to... I just happen to go on my own... and although she ate good and good breathing... she was small and had to be in the warmer... the nurse threaten me if I touched her, she would stick her with an IV... because she needed that warmer.

Whaaat? You weren't allowed to touch your baby, or they would give her an unnecessary IV?   That's nuts.
