Really?! FB vent

posted 19th Feb
So I was in FB and ran across a pregnant friends status. Her husband is Army so they are living in Germany. Anyway, she's only 34 weeks and her doctor says he is 5+ pounds and lungs are developed. He doesn't like that she is contracting so much so she goes back Friday and if there is progress in the cervix he is going to send her to the hospital to deliver   really? I can't decide who's more stupid...the doctor or the mama for believing it's safe to deliver her baby at 34 weeks. Smh...

Sorry had to vent so I didn't say anything mean to her!

Eh I stopped caring I've seen people on my FB give a new born solids and be proud of it. It's her kid she'll suffer the consequences to her stupid decisions.

Hmmm that doesn't sound right to me. But maybe there is some other things that is going on with her pregnancy that she hasn't openly talked about.

In some countries they go by the conception date instead of LMP so het doctor might say she's 35 weeks when we would say 37 weeks

There might be extenuating circumstances around the situation. For instance, constant contractions without cervical change can indicate infection when other markers are present.

You can never tell what is happening based on the vague information that put out there.

My cousin had a scheduled induction. When someone asked why they were inducing she said "My doctor doesn't think I will make it to my due date.". Exact words. What?? She's a very smart girl, so I am sure she phrased it correctly. It just kind of boggled my mind as why that was a reason to induce and not the opposite. But whatever.

She did say her cervix is thinning but she isn't dilating. My concern with it is that he said the lungs are developed and baby is 5 1/2 pounds when even an ultrasound can be off on weight and lungs aren't fully developed (or there is room to make them stronger)

This is what I was thinking. But also another mama said they may go by conception date. Which would also make sense.

Hmmmm interesting.

All I said to her was that the lungs are not developed and weight can be off by 2+ pounds. & unless her due date was way off it was way too early...I wanted to say more but didn't want to sound mean and start a fight lol

There are different types of steroids that they could be giving her to help mature the baby's lungs a little faster.

My son was born at 34 weeks by emergency C-section. He was 5lbs 2oz. And his lungs were fine. He had to spend a week in the NICU because he couldn't quite figure out how to eat and breathe at the same time, so they couldn't let him come home with me. I'm not saying this counts for ALL 34 weekers, but it does happen. And there could be other circumstances that are the reason she has to deliver him early.

She's on magnesium to try to stop the contractions? And she says "he said he's not worried about it because I had A (her daughter) at 36 weeks. Apparently my body doesn't like to go full term"

My body doesn't like to go full term either, but they weren't trying to bring my daughter at 32 weeks just because her brother came at 34. Their goal was to keep her in as long as possible.
