A girl I know has been breastfeeding going strong over a year now. But she injects painkillers. I am curious how much of that is passed to her baby? And when she weans will the child withdrawl? Any links to some real facts please?

She isn't taking them to be safe. she injects them to get high. I am just wondering how much of it is passed through to the baby. Since I know if you are too drunk to drive you are too drunk to breastfeed, and marijuana passes through a tiny bit. I am curious about some real information about how much percocet is passed through to the baby and if he will have withdrawls when she weans.

Did she shoot up before too? The baby can be addicted to the drug she's shooting up and needs to go to the hospital to be treated so it's not addicted anymore. Also the baby can develope some disabilities. I'm not sure how much is going into the baby, but I'm guessing damn near close to everything she's shooting up is getting absorbed into her breastmilk and that baby should definitely be treated right away.

i know morphine is out of your milk after 4 hours or so. is she shooting up right after nursing then waiting at least 4 hours?

She shoots up morphine and percocet. and immediately after he wants the boobs. he clings to her leg and cries as she is getting it ready. then he wants to feed right after she does it so obviously he knows. But eventually since he's over a year, they have to wean and I am wondering if he will have withdrawls as bad as newborns or adults that stop. She obviously isn't caring about his health by doing it so taking him to the hospital isn't an option for them...she's been shooting it up for 6 months or so she says. But before that snorting it i assume. She had a script for percocet 30's while she was pregnant so if she was taking them and going straight to breastfeeding I guess that would stop any withdrawls he might have had. I just want some links to some real facts about injecting drugs and breastfeeding.

I tried looking up some websites, but I couldn't find any legit ones, the one I did find that had good information I can't find again to save my life. I couldn't find anything about helping the child through withdrawls either, all the websites listed things that could go wrong with the child then to contact a local hospital or doctor. Sorry I'm not too much help. /=
