posted 19th Feb
My son is 4 months old and weighs 20 pounds. He is exclusively breatsfed on demand ( average between 8 and 10 times a day) he was born weighing 7.3 pounds.

Should I start solids?

If he's happy on the boob keep him on them boobies

Waiting longer to intro solids will help prevent food allergies!

Twenty pounds? Wow! At that age, my daughter weighed 12 pounds. Is he showing any signs of readiness? He doesn't really need solids. He's getting what he needs from your milk. I'd probably hold off until closer to 6 months.

solids like baby food or solids like munchy food..baby food is a good start at 4 months, solid munchy foods really depends on teeth and swallowing and stuff like that. My daughters started getting teeth at 3.5 and 4m. The doc said it was okay to start them on solid like hard food at 5.5 and 6m. so baby food i think would be great for a 4 month old. stick with one kind of food for a week to make sure he has no allergies to it. if your making them keep the foods very basic.

You aren't really supposed to be giving harder food to an infant unless they can sit up by themselves AND crawl.

Fo shizzle.

Plus, their little bellies don't start producing digestive enzymes like Amylase and Lipase until 6 months of age. I regret starting my daughter on solids as soon as I did!

He seems satisfied with boob only, I do have a lot of milk because my boobs still leak a lot and if hour hasn't drank from a boob in a few hours its rock hard. (He only takes one boob per feed)

I mean solid food like cereal or the stage 1 baby foods that have no other ingredients except for one kind of fruit or vegetable.

I'm worried that because of his size maybe he needs something more.

Signs of readiness.. Hmm he does watch me eat, he stares at the fork from my plate to my mouth, he has excellent head control and sits up pretty well (assisted). Another sign of readiness is apparently doing a mini pushup when on his tummy, but he hates tummy time. He used to do the mini pushup like two months ago but he doesn't anymore. Think all that weight is hard to push up.. Lol.

It sounds like he's already getting everything he needs. Personally, I don't think he needs rice cereal yet. It's just a filler. But you're his mommy, and it's your choice.

I started her on rice cereal at 4 months. She didn't like it, so I waited until closer to 5 months. I miss Ri!

Personally I would say he wasn't ready. But hang in there! Sounds like your doing awesome with breast feeding! Wish I could have done it as long as you

I'm stuck at work until like 11 or 12 today. I'm calling that ultrasound place as soon as I get out of here. If they can squeeze me in, I'll call you!

Alright sounds fun! Then we have to get Lola a shirt that somehow says something about a little sister or brother!
