My daughter will not take a bottle.

posted 19th Feb
Hi everyone!
So here is my dilemma, I have been ebf my daughter since birth... I did give her a bottle here and there till she was 2 weeks old. I figured she learned how to use it and that was good enough. Well I had no idea it would come to her not wanting to take a bottle at all... My mom was always like no no just breast feed and don't give her the bottle she wont take the breast after. I listened to her because I love nursing and love the bonding. Well now I am stuck.. I have been trying to give her a bottle since about 4 months and she will be 6 months on the 27th... I have tried : Avent, Gerber, Tommy Tippee, NUK, the ones from the hospital, sippy cups, Playtex, Breast flow (natural like mothers...) Vital baby, evenflo... you name it I have it!!! I have tried giving it to he STARVING, half hungry, hungry, sleeping, half awake, with water, juice... I have even tried putting honey or her vitamin D on the bottles cuz it's sweet...I have tried everything!!! I need HELPPPP!! She doesn't know how to suck it. She just puts it between her tongue and cheecks and bits on it. Oh and I have given the bottle to others to give her. My husband, sisters, friends... She still wont take it. I worked a 5 hr shift at the office and went home to a starving baby. My mom even tried spoon feeding her. You can't even imagine how many different types of formula I have wasted and my precious expressed milk lol.

She takes a little baby food 1 times a day and usually doesn't finish a jar in 3 days. Its really hard at night because she still wakes up every 3 hours.

Any advice? Sorry it's so long but I don't know what else to do, I have tried everything   TIA

I don't have any advice except that you should absolutely not put honey on anything of hers at this age

Just doesn't sound like your baby is ready for a bottle & has no interest in solids. They aren't required or necessary if your baby is EBF. I wouldn't experiment with starving her because of it either. That just sounds terrible. My cousin couldn't go back to work because her baby wouldn't take a bottle either

Went threw the same problem she won't take a bottle to almost 10 months. I got from a 1dollar bottle to a 16 dollar bottle nothing. I finally started giving her juice and she would only drink that at the time out of a bottle.

Just keep trying helps if your not in the room and someone else is giving it to her

I know I don't actually starve her, I feel bad and love her too much.
She loves baby food but very little at a time. She opens her mouth when she sees the spoon and when we eat she seems like she wants food too. I give her food at the table with us when we eat dinner but she still eats very little and bf right after.

neither of my boys would ever accept a bottle, they just waited for me to get home from work or school, they compensated by nursing more at night. it's frustrating and makes you worry, but things do work out. you can try other things such as spoon feeding milk or with a syringe or even a cup. the bottle is not the only way. hope you find a solution that works.

Oh and this happened when I was working 10 hr shifts and they were both quite healthy and happy. I don't know if I was quite so happy though, lol. cosleeping was my life and sleep saver.

Do you HAVE to stop breastfeeding?

She wants you, not necessarily the boob. I would just continue nursing as much as possible. You'll never get this special time with her back.

Not so much every day but sometimes I cosleep and sleep with out a shirt so when she got up at night my boob was right there and ready for her. I still sleep with out a shirt but she is on I. Her own room and her own bed so when she gets up at night she'll come on my bed and find her boobs with out even waking me up lol. She's 13 months now

i believe she just wants LO to take a bottle while she's at work, it doesn't sound like she's completely stopping nursing, although I'm sure she can give a definite yes or no on that.

You should absolutely not give a baby under a year old honey. It can give them botulism.

Try a sippy cup with a straw? DS isn't a fan of anything except boobs and straws (I think it's cuz he sees me drinking out of my water cup (that has a straw) all the time)

it's hilarious to wake up to that isn't it, i remember opening my eyes to see my boy standing next to the bed fully attached to my boob and snoozing away at the same time. he couldn't quite climb up yet, lol.
