My parents believed in the whole hit your kid to make them listen.it makes me realize that I never actually resepcted my parents, just listened to them to avoid getting hit.

My kids, I want them to actually listen to me because they respect me not afraid. also, I would watch out OP, your child wil more than likely start kitting other kids because they think its okay to, because you taught him to, you hit because you think they are doing something wrong, so you being your childs role model is teaching them that as well.....

and watch, you'll hit your kid because they hit someone else....hypocrite.

don't get me wrong, I have hit my kids once in a while, out of being scared, ie" when my son thought it was okay to jump over his baby brother, I smacked him before he got off the ground, but never on a regular basis, and my son is 4, he has only been hit, maybe 5 times...if that.

My son is the exact same age and we do the same thing. That's how he knows no. You're not a bad parent for teaching her that way.. Every parent and child is different. Don't let people be smurfs to you about the way you raise your own child. On another note, I'm 31 weeks with popping pelvic bones so imagine how I feel, lol

Infants can also learn no through words, redirection, praise for appropriate behaviours, and a myriad of other things.

Hitting your child at that age is lazy parenting.

Exactly!

He is setting up his child to get in trouble, and get hit! Why should she suffer for his forgetfulness?

I didn't tell my 10 month old no, I redirected him instead of punishing him at that age. Hims was my baby anything he shouldn't have gotten into, wasn't accessible to him.

. By the time she's 7 months old, she'll respond to her own name, and by 8 to 12 months she'll understand simple directives such as "No" or "Don't touch."

My son knows what the word NO means but doesn't always listen as kids do sometimes. When he has an interest in one specific thing, redirection does not help and he gets praised for good behavior constantly. He is an extremely happy child and is not abused or neglected, so my way of parenting is just fine. I'm one of the best moms that I know.so thanks for your unneeded concern but my little prince it's just fine.
