home made baby foods
posted 18th Feb
So I made the decision to make all of my sons foods this time. I am getting pretty good at it. However, I have a Baby Bullet Turbo Steamer, and was wondering if anybody had any idea if I can make apples or pears in it? And if so, how? Also, if you have any recipes that your lil one really enjoyed, please share! So far he has only tried a couple first foods since he's not quite 6 months. He has tried bananas, carrots, and avocados. He liked all of them, but did not do well with cereal so we are taking things slowly to give him time to adjust. Any ideas?

I make my own as well, i make loads then freeze it in little pots
Sweet potato or squash are goor first food, he still loves them now
He likes chicken dinner- cook and blend chicken then add veg (I did sweet pot, turnip, carrot and broccoli) and I use a hand blender for it all. I find with the hand blender you can decide easy how smoth/lumpy you want it as they grow.
As finger food I give banana and coojed carrot sticks
One tip is as the food getts more lumps as they get older sometimes babies bork, its not they dont like it they just have to get used to eating lumps. I was fustratted thinking he wont eat lumps and this advise from health visitor

I made my own with my dd at 6 months old, she is now 12 1/2 months and I still basically feed her homemade stuff only. lol I never did purees though. I started with textured foods (small chunks)
For apples I just steamed them in my steamer then made them into little finger pieces for her too pick up, as well as potatoes, pears and peaches and so on with veggies too.
I made stews and pastas and stir frys for her as well. All meats I made on the stove top with seasonings and veggies as well as homemade chicken or veggie stock. Once the meat was cooked I put it in a casserole dish with the stock and veggies, cooked on low 275 covered, in for 2-3 hrs, the meat would come out nice and tender, I would add rice or alphabet or orzo pasta to it.
I made light pasta sauces for her too, with one tomato. Boil water, plunge tomato in it for 30 sec, take out and plunge in cold water for 15 sec. Peel skin off and core it. Mash it up and add into pasta or even rice with whatever else you like. Very easy.
I only ever used a blender for somethings and my steamer. I also stew apples on the stove with cinnamon and added it to oatmeal.
I never did baby cereals at all, at 4 months I went right to real steel cut oats and made oatmeal.

How would I steam the apples or pears? I have a Baby Bullet Steamer I have been using, is there a setting for them? Or, what?! I'm going to try doing them tonight, just don't know how!
