Custody of Special Needs child?

Would a child being special needs with a diagnosis change how custody works?

Like, the child has lived with his mother all of his life and has never met the father) He didn't know he was a boy until he was a yearold.  

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking. Custody is determined by the person's ability to care for a child, so while someone would have to work harder to take care of a special need's child, I don't see that alone preventing anyone from getting custody unless they have been proven unfit to care for any child, special needs or not.

i assume it could. but idk for sure. you'd probably have to have some kind of evidence to show that it could be detrimental to his development to have a drastic change in routine. it may be something that could work, but would have to be eased into, you know? not just an all of a sudden "here, now you go to your dad's house" type of thing.

maybe the dad is trying to get some kind of custody of the kid now. that's what i assumed...

The state isgoing after him because we're on public assistance. I was worried he'd do something out of spite.

What would be so wrong with him sharing custody? If your child is special needs then couldn't you use all the support you can get? People grow up and change.

Oooooooooooh, okay. I don't know much about that hon, but I wouldn't see much changing. He technically abandoned him according to the law, I believe.

Well autistic kids need schedules and routines, right? If his dad wants to be a part of his life I think you need to slowly introduce them and have it be on your turf so Caiden isn't out of place or uncomfortable. Work out something between you guys before he takes it to court, if he ever even does try to.
