I'm not losing anything. It's just annoying when someone is saying you don't know something when that person doesn't spell the word right.
You started saying I didn't know the definition of homicide. YOU started that and YOU'RE the one that said I was incorrect when I was not.

You can't change the definition of a word either.

A definition is a definition is a definition.
Either way, everyone's hung up on the word murder. It's a HOMICIDE investigation. I've said MORE THAN once that it was likely from negligent actions, not malicious ones. But for some reason, it's being overlooked and you're stuck on this...

You are as thick as they come. They are NOT defined the same way. I'm not stuck on anything, you were the one who came in set on the fact that the cops killed him. You keep back peddling though, i'm out.

My 18 year old daughter has DS and if a bunch of men in plain clothes came and put their hands on her she would fight tooth and nail!! She doesn't know the laws and even what breaking a law means...

They did kill him. Even if it were by negligent means.

I don't understand. Do police not have to be trained in article 9 (or the equivalent in whatever state)?

I tried to look that up (and am assuming its to do with human rights and improper detaining) but could you explain?

uh no ... that's manslaughter

I'm pretty sure it's just the name for the legislature here but every state has similar laws.

It's basically the legal outlines for the rights of the disabled. I'm not sure if cops are bound to it though or if it's just for health care workers....

I don't think most states recognize "manslaughter" on a death cert. Manslaughter is a legal term- but a coroner/m.e. has little to no information about circumstances involving other people/intent so they label, generally, one of these things:

• Natural
• Accident
• Suicide
• Homicide
• Undetermined (or “Could not be Determined”)

Now, I'd have to read all 29 pages to be sure and at this point I just don't care enough to do that.

On another note, I'm not sure why I always wanna debate on these things because it gets to a point where you've laid out every argument needed to defend your view and people opposing either don't quite get your point or interpret it whatever way they want. And, generally, I just like the debate itself but it eventually devolves into people attacking other people's morals and character or irrelevant issues like spelling/grammar. Really, unless someone is a bigot or really out of line, I don't leave thinking less of people. I may leave thinking that there is no way someone is compatible with me, but as long as they have a good argument I definitely don't leave here thinking people are stupid. I even gain respect for people sometimes.

All we know about this story, for sure, is that it is tragic and that it must have been terrifying to have gone through what the man with DS went through. It doesn't mean that he wasn't acing outrageously or that the cops were "out of control" with force. In my view, it more than likely means that, unfortunately, a scared man with inadequate adaptive skills and inadequate support people probably became scared, which led to agitation and violent behavior in a scary situation where most adults could use reasoning. And unfortunately for him, the safety of several trumps the right of 1 to act dangerously and irrationally- even though they were scared and didn't understand.
