AV block

does ANYONE else have a type 1 atrioventricular block ? (in the heart)

if so has it caused you any issues ever or is it something you just have that is harmless ?
my doctor is sort of a doofus and just googles things when I ask him so I dont get a lot of legitimate information out of him aside from "oh okay so type 1 is good..you dont need a pacemaker.. that's good"

You need a different doctor for 1, preferably one that relies on resources other than google. For 2, you should be seeing a cardiologist to manage a 1*Block, at least initially to figure out the why/hows/whats involved…

That being said, this isn't a life threatening thing unless it was brought on by, say drug problems or an MI...

You're at higher risk for afib I think, maybe at a bigger risk to need a pacer for other stuff down the road. I don't think first degree blocks are likely at all to evolve into a second degree type one or two or- heaven forbid, a 3rd degree. You should be ok

Wait… do you have a First Degree Block or a Second Degree Type 1 (aka Mobitz 1/wenckebach?) I just started thinking about that and had to re-read your question- it isn't clear

thanks for the response! it's the Wenckebach type. I do remember that, it's a hard word to forget lol

what an afib? it's definitely not brought on by drug use so i don't know
my doctor seems to think it's something that I've always had

and yeah I really do need a new family doctor. he's so awful
he's very unprofessional and just sits behind his Mac googling stuff and reads off the computer to me. it's not really reassuring at all.

Oh, all that initial info was referring to a block that you don't have. A Wenckebach is different. They can be caused by certain cardiac drugs. Digoxin, beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers, and certain antiarrhythmic drugs are some of these- are you recognizing any of these as something you take?

There are also certain medical conditions that are associated with an increased prevalence of this type of block. But reall they are too numerous to list and in several the link is pretty… shoddy?

I THINK it can also be hereditary to a certain extent.

Also, as long as you don't have existing cardiac diseases there is little or no risk of the block progressing to a Mobitz type 2 or into a 3rd degree block. Those 2 are more ominous.

hm I'm not on any kind of meds at all. strange!
I will be seeing a specialist and hopefully get some answers. thanks so much I do feel better!
