Shouler Injury

posted 18th Feb
So, years ago I injured my right shoulder. It has always been a little painful at times. But lately it hurts all the time. And my 2 year old is not helping. He wants to be held all the time. Which is my fault because I have always loved holding him. By the time my other boys were this age I was having another baby and not able to hold them much. But now I feel bad telling my youngest I cannot hold him as much. He comes up to me and asks for a hug. So I will bend down and give him a hug. But that is not what he really wants. He wants to be picked up. But I cannot even raise my arm itself without pain. I am going to be seeing a doctor soon and am pretty sure they are going to want to do surgery. Then I know I will not be able to pick him up at all. Little man doesn't even like husband to hold him. He just wants me. So this is really hard. Makes me put off the doctor visit even longer.

I can't pick my kids up like I used to (besides being pg, I've got 2 herniated discs in my back). I tell them I can hold them if I'm sitting down. While my oldest understands, my youngest sometimes has a hard time but when I tell her that it hurts Mommy then she's more understanding

Awh man, that is rough!   Just keep in mind that you're not holding him now so that you can keep holding him later! Just tell him "buddy, mommy is hurt and can't pick you up right now" and see if he'll crawl in your lap instead?

We have been doing a lot of cuddle time in the chair today. He seems content with that. It's just a bummer because he gives the best hugs when I pick him up!

Aww!   Must be super frustrating. I know my son would have a conniption if I couldn't pick him up. Have you tried alternative therapies - acupuncture/acupressure, massage therapy, physio, chiro? Lots of people avoid surgery that way.
