hair, what would you call this?

posted 18th Feb
This is what my hair looks like I allow it to dry naturally.

It's really long, hits just above my waist. This is actually tamer than usual, it can get really big and frizzy when it's humid. I don't know what to do with it in it's natural state, mostly because it's weird because although it's not quite curly the waves rap around each other in "curls". My daughter says it's beautiful and looks like "mermaid hair". I say it looks messy, gross and unkept. Reminds me of dreadlocks lol!

So do you consider it curly? Wavy? Pretty? Ugly? If your hair was like this would you wear t natural or straighten it like I normally do? If you have hair like this what do you do with it, ie what products/ methods do you use on it?

I say its wavy, that's how my hair is. I usually straighten it if I have it down. But its so long and thick it takes forever, so I usually just put it up in a bun type thing.

I never thought another person existed with hair like I wish I could hug you right now....I have tried so many things unless I feel like spending half my life straightening it I just put it in a ponytail or half up half down so it looks pretty on top but the kinkier bits look like its on purpose ...Mine actually will dread up without severe constant brushing and conditioning and even then three times a year I have to have them cut out of my hair and I have to frequently thin my hair no product or style or cut has ever helped really I just survive it

I think it's beautiful, and I'd keep it the way it is because I love natural hair.
Maybe put a little oil or product if you don't like the frizz. At target they sell this spray hair oil that's called "Shea moisture" it's in the section with African hair products.

I'd call it very wavy. Doesn't look bad at all. I agree with your daughter, lol. Mermaid hair.

I love this section   as long as you don't use a lot the shea spray makes your hair pretty

Have you tried the curly girl method? It's good for wavy hair, tooo. But yours is curly in my opinion. Mine is very similar only with some tighter curls. I've been trying some of the things from the curly girl method and now I'm wanting to go full on with it because just the few things I've been doing are making my hair look AMAZING!

Same here, it takes forever to straighten. If I don't have time to straighten it I usually put mine in a half pulled through bun or a side french braid. when I do straighten it I don't wash my hair for at least a week LOL

I have a few sheen sprays from the African American section, they work okay but don't really get rid of the frizz just make it really shiny haha. Unrelated but related I am actually 1/16 african american.

The more I brush mine the worse it gets, I can only brush it while wet or after I've straightened it. I thin mine myself. Weird thing is my bangs are straight, there's also hair on the underside near the nape of my neck that is straight, both parts of har are finer in texture as well. So weird. haha

OP, you have CURLY hair. It's not even wavy...it's curly.

It looks dried out from sulfates but that could be QUICKLY remedied with the right hair regimen.

Check out this girl's blog. It's what got me started in enjoying the curls that I had. I love my hair now!

This was my hair before I started this method:

And this is my hair after I started using the curly girl method:

Both of these are pretty old and it's gotten much curlier, even since these pics were taken. It's worth a look!
