It's just the way you said everything in your original post. If that is not what you implied then okay. Still you asked for advice from others and we all gave you it. No one of course knows everything but what you post so we just have to go off that.

You're OP said this We don't have a big yard and the dog would be inside almost all of the time.
You never said it wasn't fenced in until now. Don't get a lab, get a smaller dog.

We had a full blooded golden retriever and he was bad he ran away all the time hoped the fence climbed jumped. We had a huge yard too and he was fixed.

Also retrievers are known to have bad hip problems and require lots of dr visits when there older we had to give our dog pills 2 times a dsy and same with my friends I was told labs are the same.

I have a black lab. Our place isn't big either. But I walk my babies 2 times a day. And dog park once a day for an hour. I don't crate any of my 3 dogs. They are free to run when no ones home. My labs about 70ish and he's a year and a half now.
