Vitamins Needed.....

Hey everybody, i am 4 weeks prego and i have been taking over the counter prenatal vitamins and a 1000 mg fish oil pill everyday. Is anyone else taking fish oil while their prego? If so how much are you supposed to take everyday or are you supposed to take those at all while your pregnant? I'm just curious, because i dont have a doctors appointment until sometime next week and wasnt sure what i should all be taking.

I am taking the same thing. My doctor said it was perfect.

instead of the fish oil i take an actual DHA formulated for pregnant women, it has a few other things in it too but its formulated to help the babies brain and eyes

I was taking that for awhile until the fish oil started to make my stomache sick. But i heard that they are great for brain and eye development.

Yes, agreed on the DHA supplements. I am taking one that works with any prenatal vitamin called Expecta DHA, you can get it at a rite-aid, etc. Also I've been training to be a Nutritionist for some years so I can tell you this much... be careful of taking too much vitamin A. Later on, when/if you get morning sickness and can't keep the prenatals down, try Flintstones gummies or chewables multi-vitamins.

I dont take fish oil but i take folic acid along with some other vitamins. The folic acid reduces the risk of develpmental problems with the baby.

Hello Alicia & Ken.
What I'm wondering is if there is a set amount for everyone, or if it varies from woman to woman. I think best if you speak with a doctor directly. There should be a call # to a doctor in your area if you can't wait until your appointment.

It's so hard to stomach all of the darn vitamins isn't it? I have been so sick off of trying to take the prenatals and Expecta (basically DHA pil).... gosh ewww I get sick in the middle of the night if I wake up, which is happening more and more frequently.
