for those that self inject shots at home

posted 18th Feb
I just gave myself my third round of weekly progesterone but this is the first time I have done it ....not only was it hell sticking myself the pharm tech said bigger needles were better for first timers man was she wrong, but on top of it I seriously think I messed it up.
I did it in the same spot where my other injections had been I still have the lil scabs just to be sure for now till I get more comfortable injecting into the muscle but this time the meds not only oozed out but burned even tho I pumped it in slow my heart started racing I got dizzy and started sweating and my contractions got worse....Did I somehow psych myself out even tho I dont mind the shots they dont scare me or did I mess it up? I have to do long breathing stuff just because of my contractions and did that while doing the shot to keep from tensing thinking it would help should I not have? lol I am sure I just need to keep laying down but now I am wishing I had a better person to have told me how to do this I feel like an idiot because I dont know if this is bad or not as it didnt happen the first two times I got the shot from labor and delivery

I can't do my own injections. I make my hubby do it. I give people shots every day, but I can't inject myself.

ETA: I had a bad reaction after my first injection of Lovenox. Like someone else mentioned, I think my hubby hit a vein, because I got really dizzy and sweaty and my vision went black. It was scary.

I'm normally a champ when it comes to getting stuck with needles, but when it came down to sticking myself I had bad anxiety at first. My husband had to do my first few injections and I had to look away. Now I do them myself and he has to look away.

I find it helps to breathe out as you insert the needle and breathe in slowly as you push the medication in.

lol I am the same and have no issues with even giving myself IVs or taking them out etc. but the needles are a 30 and my normal quick poke method did not work this time I had to actually stretch my skin out and force the needle in stung a bit more but not a biggie then I had the issues you just mentioned lol glad you ladies have had this issue before as now I am pretty sure its not biggie and just hit a vein then as I was thinking how could I have psyched myself out on this I didnt think it bothered me did I do it subconsciously etc. lol I was seriously unsure whether to laugh at myself or be worried ...wish I had my husband home to help with these things but he is on CQ duty preparing for more soldiers doing deployments right now and his own coming up plus officer school the army hates me being pregnant it seems
