Kind of pissed...

posted 18th Feb
And I am unsure if I even have a right to be.

I work for a chirporactor as his assistant. I am also a massage therapist and do massages over lunch or before and after office hours. I have a man that comes religiously 3 times a week. He is work comp. We charge 50 dollars an hour for massage. All of a sudden my boss decided that I need to pay rent. 12 dollars for each hour. I make $114 a week. Then, shortly after, I saw with my own eyes documentation that he gets paid $138 for each massage. Insurance pays $414 a WEEK for this man that he never even touches or looks at. The man comes ONLY to see me.

I feel cheated, like he feels I don't deserve the full 50. I work so hard for my money. I understand that he is the boss and this is his business and he worked hard to make it to where he is today but I still can't help how I feel.

I'm sorry if I sound bratty, I just needed to vent.

No I would be pissed as well. I think I would leave honestly and start doing massages full time else where.

Yeah, if he's already getting paid MORE than you for your hour of work, I think it's totally a dick move to make YOU pay rent.

I don't know how it all adds up, but the chiropractors office charges the $50, she doesn't get that whole $50.

I don't get the whole 50 anymore. The office charges 50. Insurance companies always pay out more. I get 38 now.

That's what I thought. His daughter comes in once a week to do massage as well, she uses my lotion and table, which I don't mind. But he doesnt make her pay. Which I totally get because she is his daughter. But I feel cheated because the man honestly does not need my hard earned money. $12 dollars means a lot more to me than it does to him. It means diapers, or food, gas in my jeep.

I'd talk to him about the rent and billing of that customer. And possibly consider starting work at a different clinic or massage center.

wait so do you do massages under the chiropractor's name?? Or all on your own?? I am confused. Did he hire you as an assistant AND massage therapist, if not, then he shouldn't get a penny of what you're doing!! You should definitely set up shop elsewhere, take your little table and find another place to do the massages!

I'd look into another place to practice. I have a friend who is a massage therapist and she has her own place for this very reason. it was hard for her at first, but she didn't have a choice.

I do the massages all on my own. Most spas/salons in my area charge rent anyway. But the spas aren't getting kickbacks from insurance companies either.
Oh well, it looks like I'm on the hunt.

It's a long time coming anyway. The hours are horrendous. Nowhere near full time hours and no benefits besides free adjustments.
