it's heartbreaking

posted 18th Feb
my heart was set on having a home birth and my Midwife dropped me yesterday because a financial aspect I couldn't meet. I'm confused, I paid every month, haven't missed a payment and she just drops me and I have to find another care giver at 36 weeks. I really don't want a hospital birth because I don't want to fight for my wants, this is my last Baby and I really wanted that experience...I'm praying gfor a miracle

That's what she said I don't meet the financial aspect and doesn't want me to struggle which I'm not and she said she legally cannot deliver me. I truly don't understand, she said she doesn't want me to stress and this is extremely stressful

That doesn't even make sense. Why would she wait so long to tell you that if that was the case? She would have known you didn't meet her "requirements" from day one..? That's so crappy. I hope you can find someone else!!

Is she giving you a refund? If so maybe you could hire another midwife. Or a doula. I understand not wanting to have a hospital birth. But a doula could help keep staff stick to your birth plan. Or maybe see if there is a birthing center in your area.

Isn't that considered abandonment? I don't know if it is different for midwives and doctors. But she shouldn't be able to do that should she? I'm so sorry this is happening to you. Like you need the stress a month before your new baby is arriving.

Wow I would actually be really angry. If she hasn't offered a refund I would probably ask for one. It's really unfair that she waits until a few weeks befor your delivery to tell you she can't do it. Why did she say she "legally can't"?? What is the legal reason she can deliver you??

She just said that she would continue prenatal care until I find a provider and that she couldn't deliver. I didn't ask for a refund because she did provide prenatal care I just don't have to pay for this month or the rest. And as legally is cause if I'm struggling to pay her it's taking from my family and it'll stress me out or I'm not meeting my familys needs which can stress me during labor and I'll have a tough labor and if complications arise she can be held liable...

Well if either you or your husband has any medical background I would say have an unassisted homebirth.

Going by that thinking, she can be held liable for turning you away in your last month and that stressing you out and causing a complicated labor.

eta: ESPECIALLY if she didn't give you a referral to someone else, or help you find someone else.

me too. Like she lost her license to deliver or something idk.
If you are paying the bills, whether it stresses you out or not, is none of her business.
Makes no sense to me..

That sounds like a bunch of malarkey. She's causing you stress by dropping you in your last month of pregnancy and leaving you high and dry to find other arrangements. Is she a certified and registered midwife?? It sounds a little bit off.
